Rast was raised in Baron Castle as the son of Cecilius II, the last King of Baron of the Harvey line. It was a tradition that sons of the monarch trained in the art of the blade and chivalry to one day complete the quest at Mount Ordeals and become a Paladin. While he and his family were imprisoned by the Dark Wrath, he was trained in secret by his father and the royal retainers. Rast also recieved an education in more modern weapons, combined with the ancient skills of swordsmanship.

Rast completed his training and became a Paladin at the age of nineteen, just two years after the Great War's end. He took up duties in the Baronian army and was a field commander in the Hivan War. His command was only so-so in the battle against the giant insects, the truth being that the young Prince had little talent for military command. However, he managed to fell several Hivans alone and ultimately led his regiment to preservere in battles not by command, but example.

He spent a year abroad in the Web after the Hivan War, travelling the then untamed Fringe and fighting evils that still remained. His most notable accomplishment was the vanquishing of the infamous Minister Carmen of Naba'al, on the planet of Alter-Mana. Unbeknownst to even the King, Carmen had secured a pact with an ancient evil promising legions of undead, and other such things. Rast had fought his way through ranks of ninjas, demons and undead to fight a magically-capable Carmen.

He returned in time to find the end of the Imperialist War. The exiled governments of Figaro and Doma were housed in Baron and now had some say in the government. He observed as Edgar Roni Figaro slowly replaced his father's sovereignty. He could sense something wrong inside Edgar, as could his father. He tried to act against it, but was met by Figaroan guards. His father took no action and fell from the order of Paladins-Templar; a fact that was kept quiet by the new, Figaroan-driven propaganda.

Rast chose to attempt an assassination on Edgar. The result not only ended in failure, but the loss of his abilities as a Paladin. He managed to survive the pursuit by Edgar's agents, who showed strange supernatural abilities. He escaped into Mist, just ahead of the Baronian legions who came to seize it, then into Kaipo and finally Damcyan by way of the waterway.

He found it increasingly harder to escape Edgar's agents, hence he finally took up a new set of ideals. He fully intended to kill Edgar and retake Baron for the Baronians and found a quick solution for his need of power: to become a Dark Knight. He managed to take out several agents and fake his own death before the surviving minions. The deposed prince then fled to Mana.

Angry and darkened, Rast signed up as a mercenary during the Moogle Wars™. He served as a scout for the war, taking to the massacre of the moogles quite well. He continued on as an independent mercenary afterward, a rather bloodthirsty one. His goal was ultimately to have enough money to hire other mercenaries to help him retake Baron. This changed with the outbreak of the Leviathan War

Rast was hired to join the REF and fought with them at the battle of Leorn Beach, Nikeah and Hosluftgrad. The large amount of bloodshed seemed meaningless and he found himself losing his enchantment with war and even reclaiming Baron; the atrocities of the Leviathan War took away his old sense of purpose.

It did not take long for the Dark Knight to realize what he had become shortly after the end of the war. He continued his career as a mercenary, but only to support himself; he questions if he has any reason to live. The result is an angry, bitter Dark Knight that hates the world almost as much as he hates himself. He accepted the job offered by Tarvo Earthblade as one of the Earthblade Mercenaries as a way to make a bit more money -- a connection he formed through one of his comrades from the REF, Troi Denrio.
