Yllidel was born to a Dark Elven priestess of Sindrai'el, in the dark city of Zhanduril. When Yllidel came of age she endured the Trials of Priesthood and failed. For her failure, the Spider Queen transformed her into a Drider -- a creature with the torso and upper body of a Drow, but the lower body of a spider -- and she was banished from Zhanduril forever. It is not known from which Drow House Yllidel originally hailed -- she almost never speaks of her coming of age among the Dark Elves.

This was around the time of the Transbaron Campaign in the Crystal Dimension, and it wasn't long after Yllidel's departure from the cavernous cities of her people that she claims she was saved by the Goblin merchant Tarvo Earthblade. Tarvo denies all Yllidel's accounts of exactly what happened, but cannot explain why, to this day, the Drider follows him around. She is one of the founding members of the Earthblade Mercenaries.

Yllidel has a natural immunity to poisons and Earth-elemental magics. She can also inflict poison on her enemies, either with a claw swipe or with her venomous fangs. Yllidel has limited innate spellcasting ability, focusing on the element of Earth. She is also able to invoke a levitation effect.
