Fantasy weapon-based fighting game revolving around the Mana Sword. Each character has a distinctive weapon and fighting style.
Sample Manacalibur characters:
- Astrid Sky-Eyes is the game's representative Valkyrie, much to the ire of Roxanne. Her dual-bladed style gives her good speed and power; she is a favorite among new players.
- Isokaru Eblana, "The Master with the Iron Crutch", is a deceptive character. His attacks do little damage, however, a skilled player can create a long chain of staff combos. He is considered a high-skill character.
- A version of the Mana Knight appears in-game, a warrior with spiky hair. Fara Somers points out that the Mana Sword doesn't really work like it does in game. This character also shouts a lot while powering up his elemental abilities.
- Justina Tereshkova, a Red Star, brings the il'Bleu order's signature fighting chains and body-bending martial arts to the fray. (Her attacks look really cool when you pull them off!)
- Manta has long been rumored to be a secret character, but no one has managed to unlock him.
- Sahl Endeberg was not included at launch, however he was added later in "Manacalibur: Beloved Edition" after the massive fan outcry demanded his inclusion. He represents the combat style of Baronian Dragoons, and fights with his wind spear, Furacao.
- Sir Cyrus, the legendary Guardian Knight, is a favorite character for his strong armor and defense (though he is considered somewhat slow). He is yet another sword-wielder, though several of his moves also involve invoking water and air magic. His ultimate technique, Nirvana Strike, is slow to wind-up and difficult to execute, but hits like a truck.
- Link, though the makers of the game totally claim it is NOT Alexander Sylinas but a version of the character from Hyrule's mythic past. Link is a good sword and shield fighter equipped with a bow and arrow, and bombs.
- Joneleth the Paladin, who can call upon Tahranic powers of light as part of his ultimate moves. He is often considered one of the most balanced and well-rounded characters.
- No Cha is presented in-game as the opposite of Jon the Paladin; fitting, given that he is reckoned in the mythic history of the Crystal Dimension as the First Dark Knight. His moveset involves a mix of Fabulian martial arts moves, quick sword slashes and "dark sword" techniques.
- Fergus the Fist represents Esperian Martial Arts and their unique Blitz techniques. This gives him an interesting mix of damaging close-range moves and powerful ranged attacks like Air Blade. He is considered a highly aggressive, "bum rush" character, somewhat lacking in defense.
