History
Born to a military family in Baron, Roland grew up being taught the ways of war, and little else. He became a General of notable talent and charisma, though he never became quite a master in his field. He also grew to be a decent man, with a loving wife. When the Dark Wrath set in, he found himself suddenly enlisted in the Dark Wrath army with little to no choice. Though not a man of overwhelming morals, Roland could not stand the thought of living in the world the Dark Wrath was trying to create, especially with his wife and child. Eventually, a sixteen year old girl by the name of Rudra Tairen approached him about the Dark Wrath, and how he could work against it. Within days, Roland found himself in a prominent role of the OmniSent, a spy organization which undermined the Dark Wrath for the remainder of the war.
Eventually, the Grand Army rose victorious from the war, and Roland and company figured that their job was completed. However, Celpo agents from the Grand Army had been contracted to hunt down every last remnant of the Dark Wrath, and that included Roland. Roland was sent to the gallows with his companions and his family. Although the rest managed to escape, both Roland son and wife were hung. From that day forward Roland had sworn vengeance against the Grand Army. While his companions in the OmniSent did not agree with his murderous intent, they had agreed the Grand Army had grown simply to large and ominous, and the OmniSent`s new task was to put a tap on the power of the Grand Army.
The OmniSent spent the next few years in hiding, collecting information and selling it for a price, all the while expanding its web. At last, the time came for the OmniSent to step forward. Roland newfound hatred for the Grand Army had turned him nearly to insanity, however, and during this period while Rudra was trying to build a pacificist realm, Roland was concocting a plan to crush the Grand Army once and for all. He had enlisted the help of several powerful assassins, including the last Baneling, Bane, and an expert killer by the name of Proan. He also empowered several technologies, including a magic-user enslaving leash and a deadly stealth weapon called the Cylinder.
At last, Roland set his trap. He ordered the assassination of King Doan of Guardia, the OmniSent`s greatest public opponent. Although the assassination failed, Rudra eventually discovered the truth of it and rushed to Doan`s bedside, her confidence shattered that her own organization could be responsible for such conspiracy. During that trip, Roland sent Bane to assassinate Rudra. With Rudra dead, Roland took control of the OmniSent, operating from behind the new leader Surlent Trakad.
He moved swiftly towards eliminating the Grand Army. First, he enslaved the magic users of Aryth with a leash. Then, he began to pick away at GACA nations with the Cylinder weapon. He was preparing a killing blow -- an all out assault on Albrook with his invincible army of magic users -- when a conspiracy hatched against him by some of Rudra`s trusted old friends, as well as Celiose Cole`s order to ignite a U-weapon underneath his army, left Roland`s plan in ashes.
As a last ditch effort, he retreated back into the dimension of Aryth, where he had retrieved his magic users and built a seemingly impregnable undersea fortress, Atlantis. From there he launched his last offensive, to drop a wild Zevin into the Esper dimension, which would certainly mean destruction for all living things in that world. His plan was foiled by a rogue Grand Army pilot by the name of Kix Brooks, who crippled the magic orbs that were sending the Zevin. The armies of Web, in the meantime, launched a full scale offensive against Roland. During this time, Roland battled personally with Faith Weist, the commanding General of the Arythian Forces, but was ultimately undone when another face showed itself -- that of Rudra, who had been alive and well the whole time, but slipped into the identity of Bane to discover the truth behind Roland`s actions as well plot against him. Broken and desparate, at last aware of his folly, Roland remained in his chamber and wept while the fortress of Atlantis fell around him.
Personality
Initially, Roland was a very honest man. While not a diehard samaritan, he dedicated himself fully to the causes of the OmniSent, which he felt gave his family a better chance at a happy future. During his beginning years in the OmniSent, he also treated Rudra as a daughter, knowing she had been raised as a Baneling with a particularly disturbing childhood. A well humored man as well as a competent General, Roland Boderick had many good things going for him.
He changed slowly after the death of his family at the hands of the Grand Army. The hatred did nothing but fester over the next few years, magnifying a thought which he knew was true -- the GA had to be controlled -- to the more vengeful thinking that put him on his path of chaos -- the GA must be destroyed. Abandoning must of his human traits, he slowly became a calculated machine bent on nothing but avenging himself, and indeed everyone, who had ever been wronged by the "cold, soulless" Grand Army. He very nearly succeeded to, and perhaps would have, had it not been for a number of dedicated heroes who worked against him in both Esper and Aryth.
Trivia
Since his near hanging by the Celpo, Roland has bared a scar across his neck. He ususally covered it up with a dark, blood red scarf.
