Geld Piece

The Geld Piece (from Tasnican, "geld", money) is the most widely used currency in the Web. Its value used to differ from region to region, but recently it was fixed to the Web Economic Trading Index (WETI), a quantitive measure of how the collective economies of all the nations who use GP are doing. This makes the GP independent of the economy of any one nation, and its value transcends national borders.

The current exchange rate with Rupees is.5 GP to the Rupee. It is estimate tat the exchange rate with marks would be about 1.25 GP to the mark, but marks are not freely exchanged. GP is the most widely used in the currency in the Web.

"Geld Pieces" became the official coin of GACA, with exchange rates and value regulated by a committee of the Alliance Congress. This replaces the system whereby many different nations with different regulatory policies were printing the same currency.

Rupee

The Rupee is only used in Hyland and in some of the surrounding areas. It is based on the relative worth of the precious stone it is made out of. This has made the rupee a stable currency, but not a valuable one.

The current exchange rate is about 2 rupees to the GP, and an estimated 3.2 rupees to the mark.

Mark

  • Primary Minter/Distributor: Communist governments

Travin Rumanski created a currency to be used within the Communist Protectorate to give the communist economy independence from the capitalist currencies. As the state controls all prices and wages under communism, the mark`s value is easily and strictly regulated. It is almost impossible to exchange currency for a mark. The Web`s primary money changer, Republic Interdimensional Bank, has been excluded from acquiring any marks. The communists keep trade amongst themselves and interact little economically with the rest of the Web. Only the communist governments exchange currency for marks, or marks for other currency, and the only entity they that they do this with on a regular basis is the Grand Army. As such, it is only possible to estimate. The rates are approximately .8 marks to the GP and .3 marks to the rupee.

Marks are often regarded as worthless outside of the communist Web; however, as a result of a recent deal by Travin Rumanski the government of the Tasnica Republic offered the Scandian League a line of credit (the initial deal was against the League's mineral reserves, but further fine-tuning of the deal has the line of credit backed against Scande's steel production.)

Crown

The Crown was the primary monetary unit in the Gate Dimension, having been in use in Gate from the time before discovery by the Web of Worlds. Crowns are minted in both coins and bills by Guardia, Medina and El Nido, and are generally accepted everywhere the Geld is taken.

As Gate has become more integrated with the rest of the Web, the Crown has become less a primary monetary unit and more a monetary denomination. Guardia, Medina and El Nido all mint their own Geld pieces now, and Crowns have become simply a higher denomination of Geld in those countries. A Crown is issued with a value of 5 gelds, with bills and coins minted in denominational multiples of 5 and 10 being referred to in numbers of Crowns. The most prevalent note for consumer purchasing is the 4 Crown, equivalent to 20 GP. In this use, the Crown has also spread to the Alter Dimension, where the nations there mint their own Crown notes as higher denominations of the GP.

Cestare

The Cestare is the primary coinage used in the Theban Empire; every coin has the visage of Empress Clementia and backed against the Imperial estates. Widely accepted throughout Terra Nostra and by certain merchants in other parts of Carrion; however, it is rarely accepted outside of that dimension. A handful of Minoan (and even smaller number of Tasnican) merchants will swap these for GP; however most trade deals between Terra Nostra and the rest of the Web involve hard goods, typically natural resources such as magilyte.

O'ra

O'ra (plural: o'ran) are coins of hard crystal etched with spider emblems. They are the standard of trade throughout the upper underground. Drow living outside of Zhanduril will often accept this currency as well, as do those who conduct a great deal of trade with Zhanduril (mostly Baron).
