Magilyte

Mineral neeed to fuel magitek, magilyte "makes the Web go 'round". Not only one of the Web's primary energy sources but also extremely coveted for its military applications. It appeares in its natural state as a dry, crumbly crystalline structure; it is believed that the crystalline lattice of magilyte somehow traps magic energy. Magilyte is distributed for use as prepackaged power cells of various shapes and sizes; the Grand Army has experimenting with a liquified form of magilyte. An extremely rare and powerful form of magilyte, known as Ultanium, is needed to power Ultima weapons and reactors.

Economics

The Esper Union is a large exporter of magilyte, largely due to the rich veins around Narshe. The Mysidian Commonwealth is the leading magilyte producer of the Communist Protectorate, although the communist nations overall are magilyte poor and have had to develop alternative fuels like petrol. The Tasnica Republic has large magilyte production but a larger magilyte appetite, and is thus one of the Web's largest importers of magilyte. Guardia has long had access to other energy sources but still uses magilyte for certain military weapons. (Dreamstone, native to Gate, is similar in some ways but is valued for its other qualities.) The Dwarven Skull Empire has large reserves of magilyte but GACA's sanctions prohibit them from selling it.
