Wren was once one of the Honor Guards of House Grayflight, the royal family of Faxanadu. In his position of trust and honor with the royals, he became close and eventually fell in love with the Princess Tytania, daughter of Queen Teleria and Regent Oberon. However, Wren's low birth (he was the son of a merchant) kept him from realistically pursuing anything with the girl, despite the honor he held as a Knight.
When the Lannocks lead their rebellion, ousted the Grayflights and Faxanadu became Hyliagrad, Wren helped Tytania and her family escape the capital. He hid them in neighboring Hyrule, where they were welcomed and supported by the aristocracy in New Kasuto. Not long after settling into their digs in the Hyrulean capital, Regent Oberon, who knew of the interest that Wren and Tytania had for each other, asked Wren to leave the service of House Grayflight and never return. Despite being deposed, Oberon would not have his daughter lower herself further by cavorting with a simple soldier. Heartbroken but duty-bound, Wren left. The former Queen Teleria then arranged a marriage between Tytania and one of Hyrule's nobles shortly thereafter.
Wren left, and earned a meager living for himself as a sellsword. Following the Leviathan War, Dylan Rufus re-united Hyrule and Hyliagrad as the Kingdom of Hyland, and Lady Tytania Grayflight was installed as the Regent of her family's former holdings in what became the Hyland province of Faxanadu. Wren, honorbound to abide by the request of Tytania's late father, did not return to her service.
In the years since the war, Wren came into the service of Tarvo Earthblade as a member of the Earthblade Mercenaries. As a Hylian Knight, Wren's primary strength is in his mastery of traditional Hylian weapons. Wren is also somewhat skilled in the magic of the Hylia, able to invoke the powers of Earth, Fire and Ice magic through the use of engraved Hylian talismans. This versatile mixture of combat skills and magic use make Wren one of Tarvo's most prized "employees."
Wren's Gear
- Mystwrath: This blade, forged of Shigramish steel using magic and a smithing process that are both now lost to us, is the sacred heirloom of House Grayflight, passed down generation after generation to the head of the Household and ruler of Faxanadu. When Teleria ascended the throne, she inherited the weapon from her father King Pailomius, and it was thereafter to pass from Teleria to her daughter Tytania. However, when Wren was cast out from his duties as House Honor Guard, Tytania stole the sword and gave it to Wren as a token of her love for him.
- Storm's Reflection: Fancy name aside, this is one of several enchanted "mirror shields" that have, over the ages, found their way into the hands of Hylian heroes. The enchanted silvery surface of this shield never needs polishing and never loses its shine; it can block a weapon hit and then just as easily deflect a beam or a spell back at its source.
- Honor's Call: An enchanted boomerang. There are many enchanted weapons in the lands of the Hylia, and most of them have a story: legend has it that this boomerang was carved from the dying trunk of an ancient Deku tree, and given as a gift to the Kokiri who stood vigil and protected the tree from an army of wicked spiders to keep its final moments peaceful. The tree, so moved by the Kokiri's loyalty, asked to have some part of itself carved into a weapon for the child, and promised that the weapon would always return to the child's hand, "in answer to Honor's Call." The boomerang has been with Wren for many years, and does seem to retain a little of the intelligence of the tree it was carved from. The boomerang has what Wren sometimes calls "an unfortunate sense of humor."
- Toothflinger: Wren's bow is said to have been made (again, by the ancient Shigrami) from the dislodged fang of an enormous serpent. This may be true, as the bow appears to be made from some kind of bone or ivory; but, exaggeration aside, it is quite obviously magical. The legends attached to this bow say that arrows fired from it never miss their mark... but then again, all legends about magic bows say that their arrows never miss. Wren's a decent enough shot, but he and Toothflinger have missed their share of targets.
- Hookshot: It's not magical, and doesn't have a cool name, but it's a Hookshot. Every Hylian hero worth his salt has one.
- Endbringer: Wren's two-handed Goron-forged hammer. Despite the dramatic name this weapon was given, it's only slightly enchanted.
- Bombs: Wren always has a number of these traditional grenade-like bombs on hand. He knows the alchemical formula behind the explosive powder inside, and can fashion additional bombs given time and materials.
- Zora Tunic: Wren's armor is a simple shirt of blue mail, whose fine links shine as if they were metal, even though this is not the case. The enchantment on this armor allows Wren to breathe underwater and swim with the speed and agility of a Zora.
- Goron Gauntlet: With Endbringer, the Gorons also gifted Wren with one of their gloves of power. The enchantment of this gauntlet allows Wren to lift heavy objects as if they weighed nothing, but doesn't otherwise affect his strength (i.e. he doesn't hit any harder than he would without the glove).
