History

Rei comes from a distinguished Eblanese family, and is descended from samurai. His parents, Kenjiro and Sachiko, are diplomats who serve the Eblanese crown as envoys to the GA. As a result, Rei spent most of his formative years in Albrook. He has very little use for religion, or any kind of structure or authority, and has always had a wide rebellious streak. He met Fabian and Serena in high school, at the prestigious Wingate Collegiate Institute, and the three became fast friends, sharing a love of music and the emerging gothic subculture. It was Rei's idea to form their intial group, Sanctuary, and he mixed all their music himself on his home computer. He was a jumble of contradictions in school: a popular, handsome and athletic boy who was captain of Wingate's kendo squad, but at the same time rather aloof and misanthropic, a loner who felt alienated from his peers. The only person Rei has ever really felt close to is Fabian. The two have had a very complicated relationship over the years, and Rei himself doesn't know precisely how to describe his feelings for Fabian. However, when Fabian made the decision to leave school and chase his dreams to Ticondera, Rei followed him without thinking, earning him the eternal wrath of his parents, who have disavowed his existence. Rei never cared about seeking their approval, though; as far as he was concerned, Fabian and Serena were his family, and he'd follow them to the ends of the Web.

Rei largely supported the trio upon their move to Ticondera, taking odd jobs on Bonro's Boardwalk. Rei met Moonchild's eventual manager, Jade Saizer, when the two worked at a gothic clothing shop on the Boardwalk, and scored the band's first gigs at the Banque (owned by Jade's mother, TFF veteran Kylenne Saizer). The rest is history.
