Mega

A "mega" or "megapost" is a very very large post, often containing an entire story arc within itself. Megas are used to explore certain things at great depth; they are sometimes used for major plot events, other times they are used to explore a side story of the Kupopolis universe in detail. The first post to be called a "megapost" was Quiet Mining Colony, by Celiose, a post detailing Kuat's oppression of workers in an asteroid mining colony and the consequences of Typhon being found there. It has 25,000 words, 52 pages, (in MS Word), and was divided into 32 parts; although nowadays some Iron Writer entries are of comparable size at the time the size and the unleashing of an entire arc-in-a-post earned it the title of "megapost". Megaposts also often use One-shot characters. Megaposts were extremely popular during Kupopolis Neo.

Kupopolis Megaposts

Quiet Mining Colony - Celiose

The first Megapost, Quiet Mining Colony starts out merely as a story on a 'Quiet Mining Colony', following several relatively ordinary miners through their travails with the Kuat Consortium (see List of QMC Characters). Eventually they are pushed too far, and the Seraphim Typhon shows up on the colony. They kick Kuat off the colony and all hell breaks loose as different factions vie for control of an explosive situation. Eventually, the colony is ordered destroyed, but Typhon ends up in control of The Celpo.

Typhon: Seraphim Orison - Michael

A Celpo Minder steals Typhon and escapes to a planetoid colony. Meanwhile, it is discovered that another planetiod has gone missing and a massive object is heading towards Tasnica, and it probably has some connection with Diamond. Clay Reynolds gathers several seraphim pilots such as Gallus Heylin and Hannibal De'Zama to combat the object. Celiose Cole and Praxer Riose show up at Diamond headquarters to plan an attack against the object. The object itself is a massive seraphim factory capable of creating multiple Typhons. Although unmanned, it takes the full force of Diamond and the Grand Army's seraphim to completely destory it, as well as a second Typhon discovered inside of it. During this time Varius Rufus discovers the first Typhon, finds the space colony that it is hidden on to be too preverse and unholy for his own moral convictions, and uses the Tyhon to destroy it. As the operation finishes up on the Typhon factory, Clay is then sent to combat Varius. In a odd turn of events, both disenchanted men relinquish their massive planet destroying robots to confront one another man to man. Clay is forced to smash Varius' head in with a rock in the following confrontation. Back in Tasnica, everyone celebrates a job well done. Clay Reynolds however is pushed further into disillusionment.

How Damien Gavalian went from the son of a chicken farmer to the wealthiest man in the Web mthrough sheer ruthlessness. Man Who Would Be King, incidentally, is also a trip through Web history and provide's a "Damien's eye view" account of many important events in Web history. It is interesting that Damien ended up with a whole megapost to himself since he started as basically a Name on page.

The Finale Megaposts

In case you didn't catch it from the name, major spoilers here! Those of you who have not read Neo yet, stay away!

This is the post that sets the final movement of the arc in motion. With the war turning against the Triad, Salomo von Konigs exhorts Damian Walker Gavalian to make peace. He raises a lot of concerns about his allies; Dubya dismisses them, stating his plan to allow the Tasnica Republic to burn. Gavalian believes that the destruction of the Web will allow him to attain godhood. Salomo, unconscious, undergoes a surreal dream sequence where he must ultimately confront how his desire to help the Republic has made him complicit in the slaughter of billions of people. Emerging from the dream sequence, he concludes that the only chance for the salvation of his people is to change sides in the war; he arranges for a message to be set to Payvern, Cose, and other leaders of the opposition against the Triad.

    • Wheel of Fire

This post resolves Avarael's, Leisha's, Dubya's, and Miles's threads. In the city of Contac, atop the Void Bridge, Dubya watches the unfolding massive space battle. The Triad is confident in the battle; the UCSSF and RAF are some of the strongest space fleets in existence, and they are joined by spaceborne Ut Infra. Nonetheless, Gavalian has decided to hold Avarael back from the final battle as a last line of personal defense. Avarael's feelings, however, are conflicted; both by his growing affection for Leisha and the discovery of his son, Miles. Dubya, completely insane, has decided that the time is nigh to give birth to the new Web; he and Leisha will be the Adam and Eve of a new order. Leisha is horrified at this, but Dubya orders Avarael to bring her to him. Avarael hesitates at first, reluctant to move against Leisha's plea, but ultimately decides that his duty is supreme and seizes her and hands her over to Gavalian. The Gavalians leave to private chambers; Leisha kills Dubya with a hidden nanoweapon. Meanwhile, Miles boards Contac, intent on confronting his father. Avarael, having betrayed Leisha already, is determined to fight his son. The Mana Knight is no match for the Black Omega; even though the Mana Sword slices through Illumina, 'the sword of Celiose', Avarael is still able to instantly defeat Miles. However, the wounded Avarael is unstable; facing the realization that he has destroyed his chance at love, he takes his own life. His suicide causes an explosion that causes Contac and the Void Bridge to crash into the surface of Mana III.

    • Achilles Heel

Hector's arc wrapped up, here. With Gavalian out of the way Salomo now declares that "the Triad is dissolved" and orders the Republic Aerospace Fleets to engage the UCSSF. Hector gives a brief pep speech, boasting, "After all, who can defeat the UCSSF except us?" The massive space battle is joined; the turning of the RAF makes the space battle an even fight. The Special Combat Fleet's horrifying bioships, as well as the Iceni VIII, inflict heavy losses on the Crystalese fleet, but the Tasnicans also take severe damage. Eventually, Hector orders his crew to abandon ship; although some want to fight to the bitter end, Hector demands they leave, saying that the war only has meaning if some people survive it; reluctantly, the crew evacuates. Nonetheless, Hector stays on board the Iceni VIII himself, joined by his loyal executive officer, Jennifer Combs. Although the mighty ship continues to fight and cause massive damage, it is eventually overwhelmed. Jennifer, in the final seconds before the ships destruction, finally has the courage to tell HEctor she loves him.

    • The Fall of the Tasnica Republic

Cel's last Neo post. Despite Salomo's gambit, the enemies of the Triad are so filled with rage they invade Tasnica anyway. Knowing that this is the end of the Tasnica Republic, Salomo can do little else besides contemplate how the Tasnicans' fifteen centuries as conquerors has brought them to this end, in spite of their positive contributions to Web civilization. Knowing that there is no good end waiting for him--or perhaps simply refusing to continue in a world without his beloved Tasnica Republic--Salomo kills himself in the Prime Ministry.
