Queen Kururu is the granddaughter of Bal's greatest king, Galuf Halm Baldesion, one of Merge's own Light Warriors.

Kururu's father, Galuf's son Gurn Baldesion, was the King's heir-apparent until a fateful trip to the Mooglish forests of Kuzar. There Gurn was unwittingly seduced and drawn into the Mooglish Civil War by the daughter of the Dark Moogle Chieftain, Kutalia. Both Gurn and Kutalia would perish in that war, but before she died Kutalia would give birth to the young girl, and General Kunominous delivered her to Galuf. Galuf then raised her on his own, as his heir.

Kururu inherited the throne of Bal after the death of Galuf in the War of Conjunction, but immediately left to join the Warriors of Dawn in their quest to defeat ExDeath. Some at home questioned whether the Queen had Bal's better interests at heart if she was so willing to leave the Kingdom leaderless for a time while she pursued adventure.

After Merge's opening to the Web, Bal was the focus of the Hivan invasion of Merge during the Hivan War. The combined forces of Guardia and the IJF saved Bal from devastation, and Kururu was regarded as a hero for helping to hold her Kingdom together. But no sooner had the last Hivan in Merge been killed than the Queen came under scrutiny again, first as an ardent opponent of the IJF, then as an opponent of Guardia, and then as an ally of Guardia so soon after the close of the Balian War.

Through it all, Kururu somehow managed to retain popular support among her people for the better part of her reign. She attempted to hold her kingdom together as Merge League-backed and Scandian-supplied insurgents rallied in the Quelban province, but without direct support from Bal's allies the Kingdom eventually fell. Kururu perished at the hands of Vodon in the Battle of Bal Castle; she insisted on remaining with the last defensive contingent while the rest of the capital was evacuated to Kuzar.
