A now-defunct alliance of Fascist nations; during its lifetime it was dominated by the Esper Union. After the Leviathan War it melted away as many of its members turned away from Fascism.

Rise of Fascism

Hannibal de'Zama's The Fascist Stance was the book that launched the ideology. Fascism as it manifested itself in the Web was an ideology of extreme nationalism; to Hannibal this meant the unity of all the Esperian peoples. Although he was hardly the first Esperian nationalist, he was perhaps the most successful; after uniting many of the 'free cities' of Esper in the Esper War, he began to covet Figaro and Doma, which eventually came under his rule in the Imperialist War. Fascism had a certain apeal in parts of the Web; some saw it as the best way to rebuild national identity, which had all but been swallowed up in the Great War. This was particularly true of Transbaron, which had been under long Dark Wrath occupation with their national culture all but dissolved. Indeed, it is not surprising that Toroia's Tally Quorsen and Fabul's Tzu Mao came to power; Damcyan also had a strong fascist movement, though eventually the communists won the power struggle there. Similiarly, Dack Stonescythe embraced fascist principles in an attempt to unify the disparate clans of the Dwarven Skull Empire into some facsimile of a greater dwarven nation. The Fascist nations formed the Fascist Pact; they were aggressive and militant. Tasnica relinquished some of its claims in the Veldt to Hannibal; the Confederacy initially included several Fascist nations. The Esper Union had more men under arms than any country in the Web except Ticondera. After the breakup of the Gate Three the Fascists were often seen as the strongest Great Power; Scande and the communists were relatively isolationist, and Tasnica was still in the process of rearmament. During the Age of Imperialism, only one nation dared defy the Fascists: the Scandian League demanded that they remove their colonies from the Dragon Dimension.

Leviathan War and Decline of Fascism

The Dwarven Skull Empire's atrocity against Istory led them to be excluded from the Pact (as well as GACA). The 'death' of Hannibal in Esper led to regime change there; the far less charismatic Ceriz Altrega could not stir the same feelings of Esperian nationalism. (Although TO Halberg certainly could, when he came to power he was resolved to democratize the EU.) Lacking its two largest patrons, many began to seek more liberalizing reforms. The Fascist Pact became defunct; fascism never made a postwar 'second coming' the way communism did. (The Scandian League claims to have "saved the Web from fascism.")

Fascism Today

The DSE is one of the few openly fascist countries, though that description may also apply to Fabul and the Viper District. Just because the Fascists are no longer running Web governments, however, means that they are gone from the scene entirely. Fascist movements and Fascist parties exist in several countries. In Eblan the fascistic Greater Eblan party was slowly gaining ground in the elections before it was banned from the Diet (along with the communistic People's Revolutionary Party); many left to join the Hemocrats.
