Artic is the only child of Rictus and Rosal Kohl and the heir to the holdings of Clan Kohl. He was raised on the Council Wyrm, since his father died when he was very young and his mother sat on the council as head of their holding.
A romance began to bloom between he and Rehn Madiera shortly after the restablishment of Triangle, though he put it aside first to serve in the REF under his friend Keaton Error, and then assumed Keaton's place as Attendant to the Light of the Zone when his friend was shipped off on his web-wide tour, in order to stop Eramus from forcibly assuming that position in a power grab.
While Keaton was away Artic became suspicious of Clan Darksmouth and Eramus, though he was unable to uncover their plan in time to save Maerius Chikara, whose blood Eramus used to summon the Anox Vi. This left Maerius weakened and near death, with Artic blaming himself.
With the island under the control of Penance, Artic made plans to get Maerius off the island. He secured a ship and false identities for Rehn and Maerius, but was too late. By the time he got to Maerius, Penance was already there.
What ensued was one of the most one-sided fights in web history. Penance nearly destroyed Artic, as he tried to stand between his Prophetess and the demon. In the end, broken and battered and very near to death, Artic summoned his Zone Eater, which burst through the floor of the Prophetess' chamber, swallowed the Anox Vi whole, and vanished beneath the ground once more.
The Zone Eater did not surive the encounter, though Artic was able to get Maerius and his betrothed off the island, before digging in to fight a losing war against the Anox Vi.
After long years of fighting, and losing nearly all of his men to the Zealots, Artic was horrified when Rehn showed up in his camp. The only thing that had kept him going through the death and loss was knowing that the woman he loved was off somewhere, safe from the Anox Vi.
Rehn brought with her their means to salvation, however, in the form of the Concentric Effects Accelerator. With this weapon, and the help of Eramus they retook the city of Boggle and were married soon after.
