Aesimond's roots go back thousands of years before the founding of the Republic, built around the worship of three main dieties: Zahd, God of War and the Seas, Heldrasil, Goddess of Love and the Earth, and Umon, God Creation. Aesimond has a fundamentally bleak worldview, representing a universe that is cruel (Zahd), capricious (Heldrasil), or totally lacking in any rationality Umon. Around the Kupopolis Legends, Aesimond exists side-by-side with Elementalism, and most Taznikanze pray to both, "just to be safe".

Tenets

The central tenet of Aesimond is: don't piss off the Gods. Especially Zahd. Partly because Heldrasil is fickle and Umon is insane, and to some degree can't be placated, but mainly because what Zahd will do to you if you piss him off is much, much worse.

The main way to avoid making Zahd angry was to avoid acting dishonorable, weak, or cowardly. For example, all duels used to resolve dispute took place in Zahd's name, and Zahd would surely punish any coward who refused a challenge to a duel. (Although there was no shame in losing a duel honorably). Hauptmann and Skalds were sort of a de facto priesthood to Zahd; the former in particular had good cause to be more worried about him than most people. Victories and plunder were always dedicated to Zahd, and it was common to sacrifice animals.

Heldrasil, "being a woman", is irrational and it's hard to know what will make her angry or happy. She is a trickster, fundamentally not to be trusted. Her pranks on the mortal world tend to be less brutal than Zahd's (unless, of course, you make her angry). Her priesthood, the Hexen, however, did take Geld and other contributions (unlike Zahd). Important to farmers, lovers, and magic ysers. As Zahd presided over duels, Heldrasil presided over marriages.

Umon is totally insane. Umon doesn't hate mortals or get angry at them, but sometimes causes them suffering by accident, not knowing any better. Such events are totally possible to avoid.

Symbols

Three gods, three main symbols. Zahd was a Hammer with a lance at a ninety-degree angle, representing his weapons. Stone women figurines were totems of Heldrasil. (Silver and gold ones were also available. Maybe she liked them better, they certainly cost more.) Umon was represented by the phallus, for the God's potent fertility, though Umon is said to embody both male and female aspects. The gods were often invoked as "Storm, Earth, and Fire."

Lesser Figures

The Valkyries, daughters of Zahd in his various mortal dalliances, often served him in various ways, as the Sirens served Heldrasil, the daughters of Heldrasil in HER mortal dalliances. (Why no sons? You ever heard those myths about the son overthrowing his father? Zahd has. Almost all divine sons are killed by Zahd infancy, except Strigard.) Additionally, Zahd also had the Ojean, large whale like animals with psionic powers capable of swallowing ships whole. The Valkyries, Ojean, and even Sirens all seem generally nicer and more 'in tune' with mortalkind than the gods themselves. The Reklar, on ther other hand, and their allies, the Impudites, were cruel and destructive. They seem to be remnants of a time before mortalkind was prominent.
