LEGENDS CHARACTERS

Hey gang. I'm thinking, since a couple of us have thrown up CPs for characters who are historical (as in, they played a part in the historical backstories of certain nations/dimensions, or are the ancestors of characters in Proper or Neo), maybe we should create a sub-division on the characters page for Legends/Historical characters. What does everyone think? --Scen 21:17, 27 August 2006 (CDT)

NEO STUFF

Do we want to put all the neo stuff on here? I think that could be kind confusing since its sorta an alternate timeline. Maybe we should have a sperate portal or wiki for all the NEO stuff?

Also, this page is looking reaaaaaaly cluttered. Maybe have seperate pagesfor each list of characters and just link the writers on this page?

Well, it's cluttered because not everybody is using the same method of sorting out their characters. It might be best to do it like Travis has done it so far and have everyone sub-categorize their characters by plot arc/plot asset: all Tasnican government types over here, all corporate types here, etc. I also don't really object to Neo stuff going up on the Wiki -- mainly because I still would like to read Neo (and I will as soon as the darn "next unread" button on the Neo boards is fixed) and we still don't have a Neo omninet resource.

But I will say I think it might be confusing unless the Neo wiki information is somehow segregated from the Proper stuff. That way it'll be less confusing for people new to Kupopolis, so they don't get tripped up and confused by seeing Neo references while trying to get acclimated to Proper. Did the Neo ON break? I know we had it during Neo itself, and I definitely have a bunch of things for Neo.I do think that having a seperate wiki or something for Neo might be advisable, just because this is intended to be a resource for people unfamiliar with the Kupopolis story and putting a bunch of Neo stuff on here might increase their confusion. --Celiose 16:07, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

But there are many connections between Neo and Kupopolis. Anyone confused can click on the word "Kupopolis Neo" to figure out what that's about. How could it be any more confusing than the rest of this convoluted story? Xstryker 17:00, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

Although if you want it separated from the existing portals, we could create a special Neo portal and move all Neo info there. I think it should be on the same wiki so we can use it as a reference for things we'd like to retroactively foreshadow. Xstryker 17:02, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

I gotta agree with Adam on this with the portal business. I think We should have on the main page a portal for other iterations of Kupopolis, starting with Neo and add them as we do more side projects. I'm gonna go ahead and make the portal and the related links. Michael

Re: "many connections," the immediacy of those connectionsis far less important than having information about actual stuff from Proper. The stuff from Neo can be confusing because it doesn't really have any bearing on events that are happening now in Proper. Anyway, it's all moot at this point: Mike did the right thing and already separated the Neo stuff into Neo portals. Scen 20:30, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

Minor Characters

I am thinking we seriously need to make a minor characters page for each writer - some people only need a paragraph. Any opposition? --Tex 02:08, 28 July 2006 (CDT)

Nah, I don't think it's necessary. The characters page is going to get huge even if we make a separate page for minor characters. I think it's better to keep all the character info in the same place for now. Scen 02:15, 28 July 2006 (CDT)

I agree and disagree. I agree that we should make pages that list ALL of our characters, organized by last name. However, I think we should make pages for these one-paragraph characters as well. It helps with categorization, and there's really nothing wrong with a one-paragraph article. Actually, I feel that a number of long articles around here could stand to be broken up a bit - give cities, battles, weapons, etc their own pages. This improves readability and allows for scalability of detail. Xstryker 11:25, 28 July 2006 (CDT)
As for organization of the Characters portal, I think it should be broken into Major characters and a variety of lists - lists by nationality, lists by author, lists by profession, lists by organization, etc. Xstryker 11:29, 28 July 2006 (CDT)
I honestly don't imagine I'll be writing more than a paragraph (or a couple in some cases) for much of my stuff, period. Major characters, minor characters, whatever. This has never really been my thing, obviously. When I do sit down to start writing crap like that, I end up getting bogged down in details, it takes me forever, and then I don't get actual, you know, stories written. --JD 11:45, 28 July 2006 (CDT)
Well, re: Major/Minor characters, it bears mentioning that a lot of major characters in Kupopolis begin as minor characters that were fleshed out much later on down the line. This applies to both Frank Yeats and Kenny Brackhaven; previously they only existed as foils for Rhodes, only to come into their own once Rhodes stepped aside. As for organization of the Characters portal... I don't see what's wrong with the system as it is. Organized by writer, then alphabetically/by associated plot arc. The major/minor distinction won't really help, IMO. Scen 12:25, 28 July 2006 (CDT)
Agreed. Even if it would help, who would decide which are major and which are minor characters? I already left off all of what I would consider to be my minor or one-off characters. But that doesn't mean someone else might see some of the ones I included as minor. --JD 12:27, 28 July 2006 (CDT)
I think the main character page should just be a links to listing of the characters in different groupings--such as "by nation", "by writer", "by plot", etc. Then there should be a page of all the characters by everyone listed in alphabetial order. Personally I'd love to see even the minor characters listed with thier own indidual page--especially Jerry's. You never know when you need to allude to someone when writing.
