In orchestrating his coup against his adopted uncle, Citizen Marathon broke that line. However, the Republic of Man fills the exact same borders as the empire that presaged it, and holds many of the same diplomatic ties. In vilifying his uncle, Marathon was able to curry public sentiment in his favor, both at home and abroad in the wider Web.
The first Roanese Empire supposedly existed circa the time of the War of the Magi while the second saw the height of its expansion some few hundred years ago with a colony where the Republic of the West now exists. It is worth noting that bad blood existed between the two countries through to the present day, though it is unknown how the relationship between the two republics will progress.
It is a popular myth that each time an empire fell, one of the final actions of the emperor had been to attempt colonization of the "haunted" atol of Dantic in the Clean Sea to the north of Blaenau Gwent.
