The thief known as Peter J. Cutpurse was born to a woman of Bleak who bore him by a father who was a cousin to one of the Padishas of Auria. Since Pete was the unwanted result of an extra marital affair, his father's identity was kept secret and he was raised in Bleak by his mother.

Pete grew up and excelled in the arts of thievery, and was expected to one day become a Guild Master. But that was not a life for him, Pete decided; he had been born with the coveted powers of the Fuse, and knew that he was destined for far more than the life of a simple pickpocket.

Pete hit the road when he turned sixteen and wound up in Auria. But soon Pete's father learned of his arrival and, fearing that his illegitimate son had come to claim an inheritance, hired some men of ill repute to track him down and dispose of him.

Pete had a marvelous sparring match with his father's goons (which two of the men did not survive), and in the end found himself with a price on his head from the local magistrate. He made his hasty exit on the next ship out of town, which happened to be a pirate ship. The rogue took to his new life quite easily, and eventually made fast friends with a priman smuggler named Puffer Takifugu.

Eventually the ship would run afoul of the Dark Dragon army, during a supply run in Gant. While most of the pirates would die fighting the Dark Dragons, Pete and Puffer escaped with the help of a Gant named Minos, and together with Pete's fusing powers they formed a big huge bull-fish monster that was able to swim far and fast away from the slaughter. During their flight they discovered a wrekced airship hull, which would eventually become the Blowfish Express.

Pete currently serves as first mate aboard the Blowfish.
