New Wraith

Powerful conspiracy which sought to extend its control over the Web. Although things came to a head in 38 WR, the conspiracy had existed for much longer, being comprised mostly of ex-Dark Wrath generals.

The New Wraith extensively used powerful mecha, such as Seraphim; eventually they were able to produce a copy, the Balseraph. The New Wraith also used high-placed government figures to create whole secret armies, of which the Tasnican Federal Security Bureau and the Esperian Iron Cross were the largest.

Members

  • Kremer Fremen was the leader and key mastermind behind the organization.
  • Alucard Dreize, former Lord General of the Dark Wrath and pilot of the Seraphim Grey Reaper.
  • Char Yularen, a masked man who was thought to be the organization's best pilot. He used the Seraphim Deus ex Machina, with enormous psionic abilities. Alucard, Kremer, and Char formed the "Inner Circle" of the New Wraith organization.
  • Ceriz Altrega played a key role for the New Wraith, arranging for Hannibal de'Zama to appear dead in the Leviathan War and assuming the Regency of the Esper Union. Ironically, he was ONLY a mid-tier member.
  • Sale Burners, a Tasnican Senator, diverted funds to run an entire secret army; she also piloted a Sera-T
  • Maur Hakares, a Tane that survived the Battle of Albrook. He powered a Seraphim known as Sai Krolis, designed to enhance his already formidable magical power.
  • Numbfh, a Pandoran member of the New Wraith organization, propped up to serve as regent in Pandora by his fellow conspirators

Manipulations

The New Wraith operated in secret during and before the Leviathan War, moving its 'pieces of the puzzle' together. It funded Sale Burners' election campaign, and saw to it Ceriz Altrega was highly placed in the Esperian command structure. They were slowly building their power and biding their time.

They got a big break when the Web erupted into war in 35 WR. The Leviathan War would engulf the Web. The New Wraith worked to manipulated events in the war for their own ends, particularly near the end. When Damcyan's government collapsed after the Scandians pulled out, they ensured the new government was loyal to them. When they were worried that the Scandian League might be doing a little TOO well, they launched on attack on oil production in Arad. Perhaps most dramatically, they staged the death of Hannibal, Regent of the Esper Union, at the hands of the Scandians, even providing a genetic clone. The Scandians obligingly killed the clone and claimed to the whole Web that Hannibal was dead, hoping to demoralize the Esper Union. Ceriz Altrega emerged as Regent and an opportune moment, as the Halberg's REF was in the process of handing a severe defeat to the Scandians. Although Esperian nationalists have since blamed him for ceding an Occupied Zone to the Scandian League, at the time he was popular for ending the war with the Union intact.

Hannibal, however, survived. He began investigating "the Organization", as he knew it, while gathering mecha pilots to his side (who would eventually be called "the Hundred"). Hannibal and his pilots fought against the New Wraith wherever they found it.

The New Wraith wanted to keep the Web destabilized. To this end, Altrega used the resources of the Esper Union to create a whole secret branch of his army, the Iron Cross. They manipulated General Knossos, ruler of Carrion, into provoking a war with Tasnica. Tasnica's invasion of Carrion, and the Iron Cross's operations in West, served to further the New Wraith's agenda. The threat of Carrion convinced Tasnica that it needed a more proactive response to national security, and the Federal Security Bureau was the result. The FSB was headed by Evax Croman, but essentially controlled by New Wraith conspirator Sale Burners.

Seeking to promote a conflict between Tasnica and the rest of the Web, the New Wraith had the FSB engineer Operation Fallen Empress, a covert strike on Ticondera. The operation succeeded beyond their wildest expectations, as the Cabinet government of Ticondera, weakened by the Leviathan War, collapsed almost immediately. Tasnica and the Scandian League committed large forces to the Crescent.

The New Wraith also launched an attack on Scande to steal Dracoform design schematics. Combined with 'Tasnican' actions in Ticondera, this convinced the paranoid Rumanski that Rhodes Palmerston was trying to engineer the destruction of the Communist Protectorate even as he was preaching the New Peace. When another "mysterious invasion" happened in Naba'al, Rumanski dispatched an SLCM force under Halder Skalice.

Meanwhile, TO Halberg was beginning to have doubts about Ceriz Altrega as Regent. He similarly brought several Esperian regiments, including his elite Storms and some mercenaries such as the Steel Fist, to investigate.

In Pandora, the New Wraith had Queen Nalini Pandora and most of the rest of the royal family executed, and arranged for Numbfh to take the throne. This was a great surprise, and enormous embarrassment, to the Tasnica Republic. As at the start of the Leviathan War, it seemed that Tasnica was too focused on interdimensional affairs to notice the rise of a hostile ruler in its own backyard. It also enraged the Kingdom of Guardia, whose royal family was related to the Pandoran royals by way of Derik Pendouris' marriage to the late Naraya Pandora.

The New Wraith now organized several nations, including the Esper Union, Naba'al, and Pandora into a "Freedom Alliance", forming a distinct power block in the Alliance Congress. They used their votes to stall the dawning realization of what was going on, and to try to prevent sending a large GA task force to Alter. This fell apart when Altrega, leader of the Alliance, left the meeting to deal with Halberg's insurgency.

However, the Freedom Alliance had managed to put together a surprisingly large, well-equipped army in Alter. They didn't count on TO Halberg gambling and reaching out to his Leviathan War nemesis, Halder Skalice, who accepted that Something Was Going On and that the Esperian force and the Scandians would have to work together. With their combined forces, the two old foes destroyed the Iron Cross, the FSB, and the rest of the Freedom Alliance's army.

Showing their hand

Celiose Cole, arriving in Alter on board the Executor, sent a simple message: "It's over."

Not to be bested so easily, the New Wraith committed all of its mecha and a giant warship to a space battle. The giant warship was named the Belgememnon, after the founder of Tasnica, and was powered by a Mana Seed. A series of mecha duels ensued; indeed, the battle had more 'ace' confrontations then anything other then the Robotics Tournament. In the end, though, the combined forces of...well, pretty much the whole Web was too much for the New Wraith.
