Krenaste Everhate

Secondboy and Weapon Master of House Everhate. Krenaste appears to be little more than a chain-mailed barbarian, but is also a sound tactician, and has trained the warriors of House Everhate to excellence. However, he is insanely jealous of Zaknafein de'Camyras, who is unanimously regarded as the finest warrior in Zhanduril, and one of the most skilled Dark Elven fighters that ever lived. Legend has it that Krenaste once called Zaknafein out by insulting his lover, Shalnazar. Zaknafein not only soundly defeated the outmatched Krenaste, but further disgraced him by making him shave his head in exchange for his life--something unbelievably humiliating in a culture where long, thick hair is a status symbol of the nobility (and slaves are shaved bald). Krenaste has never forgotten this insult, and the current misfortune of House de'Camyras has fuelled his long-simmering lust for revenge.

Krenaste's rivalry with Zaknafein is largely in his own mind, but the worst rivalry he has is with his older brother, Nalfein. When their youngest brother, Solaufein showed promise as a warrior, Lady Ambika made no secret of the fact that she wished Krenaste to groom the lad as his eventual successor as house Weapon Master. However, Nalfein was also training the boy in the arts of Arcane Drow magic, and Krenaste knew that if left unchecked, the boy would quickly outstrip him even at such a young age. He plotted against him and tried to kill him on any number of occasions, but Solaufein was under Nalfein's protection and Krenaste could not touch him. Krenaste despises Nalfein because of this, and because of Nalfein's higher station and prestige as the city's Archmage, and is frustrated by his inability to harm him.

It's long been believed that Krenaste had something to do with Solaufein's eventual murder on the surface by Salphore de'Camyras, but only Krenaste, Salphore and Lady Ambika know the truth behind that.
