Chorras

Chorras is the name given to a grouping of four Guardian prefectures that are collectively known as the Chorran Province. Up until the beginning of the Syndicate era, Chorras was an independent state. It was brought under the aegis of the Kingdom of Guardia by Doan Pendouris at the end of the Syndicate Wars. In the year 2330 AD (47 WR), Chorras' Governor Dregoth declared independence from the Kingdom of Guardia, a move that is sure to spark a civil war.

Land

Chorras comprises one of five continental land-masses in the Gate Dimension, Southeast of Medina and South of Geno. With Geno and half of Medina, Chorras makes up Gate's Eastern Hemisphere. Also included as part of the Chorran continent is the island of Giant's Claw, which is one of only a few places in Gate where Reptites and other Saurian lifeforms have survived.

Population

Chorras' native population is dark-to-olive skinned, related to the human stock that is currently dominant in Medina. It was colonized by Guardia and Zenan during the 400's, but aquired de facto independence in the year 600 AD following the Magus' War. The Chorrans would not establish their own formal independent government until the year 1020 AD, when the city of Truce was sieged and conquered by the Porreans, bringing a temporary end to Guardian dominance of the Gate Dimension.

In addition to the humans of the four Chorran prefectures, the Reptites of Giant's Claw are included among the populations of the new Chorran state-in-rebellion. They were discovered and given provisional Guardian citizenship shortly after Dregoth won election to the post of Governor of Chorras in 2322 AD. While the majority of Reptitekind remains concentrated on Giant's Claw itself, there has been a mingling between the two Chorran races since the Reptites' emergence.

Internal Politics

Chorras is traditionally divided into four prefectural states, and at one time had both a Senate and a Governor. Chorras has the distinction of being the first truly democratic nation in the Gate Dimension, as for most of its history Guardia was strictly monarchist, and both Medina and Porre were proto-fascist military dictatorships.

Presently, Chorras is divided into five prefectures: South Chorras, North Chorras, Cyrus, Port Toma and Giant's Claw. A Senate is in the process of being re-established from among the former Councilors who represented the Chorrans in the Guardian Parliament. Most of Chorras' internal politics deal with the gritty particulars of establishing a government-in-rebellion: the two dominant factions are the human Conservatives (disaffected ideologues who believe devoutly in the sanctity of their republican state) and the reptite Fundamentalists (religious fanatics devoted to Dregoth).
