Mongoose
The Mongoose Scout Walker is perhaps Kuat's most popular mecha. The first of Kuat's "chicken walkers", the Mongoose is little more than a cubical "head" with legs. The Mongoose is designed as a recon unit, and its defining factor is speed, capable of breaking over 100 kph on level ground.
The Mongoose is lightly armored with either a Tiger autocannon or N8 Minigun in the "chin"; some variants will add a grenade launcher. Although these weapons make it a threat to infantry, the Mongoose is lightly protected and vulnerable to anti-armor munitions. For Mongoose pilots, speed is life.
The Mongoose has a sensor pod that tracks and records data on its surroundings, and is also capable of painting targets for artillery such as Kuat's own Lugar, or air-launched missiles from a variety of Kuat platforms such as the Banshee and Quickdraw. Package deals on these systems are attractively priced; contact your local Kuat representative for how.
A common Mongoose sales pitch goes something like, "Oh, you spent your whole military budget on mile-long spacecraft and forgot to budget for scouts? Well, we have a solution for you..."
Mongoose II
Experience in the Coalition-Merge War led to a series of upgrades for the Mongoose. During the conflict, the mecha was often paired with Kuat Banshees as a rapid-reaction, anti-personnel force. The Mongoose II featured several improvements; the side-mounted grenade launcher became standard, while the chin-mounted minigun remained. Kuat developed and added an integrated UAV to give the Moongoose additional spotting range and recon capability. Naturally, the vehicles sensor array was improved, including a 'camera mast' to allow the mecha to peek over terrain without exposing itself. Perhaps most importantly, improvements in powerplant, mecha legs, and running algorithms led to an almost 30 percent speed increase.
First productions runs of the Moonoose II were earmarked for Coalition members, though a number of other countries expressed interest in upgrading their inventories.
