Magitech (sometimes spelled Magitek, especially by Esperians) is one of the oldest sciences in the Web. Weapon applications were pioneered in the Esper Dimension, beginning at approximately 5 WB. Originally, these weapons used the essence of an Esper as a power source for their weaponry. This was initially actually fueled by an Esper in stasis, where some of its energy was transferred to a battery. This would later be supplanted by Magicite, created by killing the Esper off and using the resulting stone. Following the Great Cataclysm in Esper, humans turned to mining a mineral known as magilyte, which had the same properties as Magicite, but weakened significantly. Since then, magilyte is used to power magitech weaponry, save for those from the Gate Dimension.
The original magitech weaponry was mounted on aptly named Magitech Armors, which were large powered armor units with open cockpits. However, the Dark Wrath began the process of making these weapons viable at a smaller scale. Research in the Grand Army and Esper Union ultimately led to the creation of more weapons. These have ranged from simple lasers using a magilyte battery to flamethrowers and more esoteric weapons.

Esperian Magitech Weaponry
The Esperians initially began employing magitech small arms in the early days of Mic Hosluft's reign in Nikeah, as a cheaply produced government issue weapon for the early Sky Riders. Since then, they have expanded some of their creations to be more effective, while leaving behind some of the old weaponry. However, Fabul, Toroia, and other former Fascist Union nations will employ some of the older weapons, as will Esperian civil defense units.
Esperian Magitech Sidearms
TL-04 Tek Laser “Bandit” 7mm Light Pistol
- ['[Fort Locke Research Group]]’s TL-04 Bandit is the original Esperian sidearm, and saw use throughout the Esper United Soldiery in the Esper Wars and Imperialist War, but was phased out of most units by the Leviathan War. The Bandit is a reliable sidearm, and has a sturdy build; its battery packs can fire a hundred shots in an hour, and the built-in charger of the pistol can recharge a single shot in fifteen minutes. The Bandit has now been relegated to civil defense units, police, and is also sold by the government. It is a common street weapon in the cities of the Esper Union. The Bandit, while reliable, has low puncturing power compared to most pistols, and is nearly useless against modern military targets in the Web. It also can only fire on a semi-automatic setting.
Esperian Magitech Rifles
TL-05 Tek Laser “Cutlass” 6mm Light Rifle
- The TL-05 Cutlass is a laser rifle invented and mass-produced by the Fort Locke Research Group. It was the primary assault rifle of the Esperian Regulars of all sides in the Esper Wars, but was quickly phased out for the GR-12 Rapier rifle when the wars ended. The Cutlass has since fallen into use by the civilian militias common throughout the Union and as a heavy weapon for the police. The Cutlass is built like a light assault rifle compared to modern weapons; it can fire either two hundred single laser blasts or fifty-five second continuous beams (which count as four normal blasts) per hour, and recharge twenty normal blasts in fifteen minutes. It now comes in two flavors; police and civilian militias may buy it with the semi-automatic and continuous beam settings, while civilians can buy it from the government as a self-defense or hunting rifle with only the semi-automatic setting. Both can fit any standard Esperian bayonets underneath their barrels.

MFT-1 Magitek “Inferno” Flamethrower
- Fort Locke Research Group first designed the Inferno flamethrower in the last days of the Leviathan War, but the weapon entered testing only in time to be proven at the Second Battle of Hosluftgrad. It has since been retooled, and is given to one soldier per platoon in the Battlesuit Regulars. The tanks of magilyte accelerant for igniting a field of fire hold enough for thirty streams of fire, on average. Furthermore, the battlesuits prevent the soldier inside from being burnt to death if the tank is breached, a common problem for unarmored infantry carrying flamethrowers. The flamethrower is worthless against armored targets, but is ideal for roasting hard targets.
MHR-1 Magitek 90mm Sturm Faust
- The Sturm Faust is a product of the Fort Locke Research Group and entered its testing phases in the final battles of the Leviathan War, on the Solthai Continent. The Sturm Faust has since been pushed forward into mass production. The weapon consists of a single, simple rod with a trigger that is entirely disposable. Ninety-millimeter rockets like the ones used by MAW-2 launcher are mounted on the rod, akin to a bottle rocket firecracker. The rockets are capable of piercing the armor of most tanks and mecha, and essentially serve as a straight-shot anti-tank weapon. Each Sturm Faust can only fire a single rocket, but most soldiers carry four spare rockets. Sturm Fausts are standard for the Esperian Naval Marines and Airmobile Regulars. Soldiers typically carry two Sturm Fausts on any given mission, and sometimes as many as four.
MAW-1 Magitek “Furious” 65mm Anti-tank Weapon
- The MAW-1 is a product of the Fort Locke Research Group. The magitek anti-tank weapon is the original bazooka of the Esper United Soldiery. The weapon is widely spread throughout all branches. It is a shoulder carried, single man launcher for the Battlesuit Regulars, Airmobile Regulars, Esperian Naval Marines, and numerous civil defense and police units. It carries three rounds in its magazine and another in the firing chamber. The MAW-1 cannot pierce modern heavy tank and mecha armor, but light and medium armored vehicles and bunkers are vulnerable to the rockets. The rockets typically are armor piercing or high explosive, but police units will sometimes fire tear gas rockets with MAW-1 launchers as a riot suppressor.
MAW-2 Magitek “Rage” 90mm Anti-tank Weapon
- The MAW-2 is a next generation magitek anti-tank weapon designed by the Fort Locke Research Group. It was created just after the Leviathan War, and is standard issue for heavy weapons teams in the various infantry elements of the Esper Union, including the Airborne Regulars, Naval Marines, and Special Forces units. It can load four rounds into loading units in the back, each of which is a separate firing chamber. This allows the launcher to fire rounds in quick succession, as each round is already loaded and prepared. Rounds from the MAW-2 can easily pierce the armor of nearly any vehicle or bunker in the Web. The large launcher typically fires high explosive, anti-tank rounds, but will sometimes fire fragmentation rounds.
IFM-1 Magitek “Gigas” 85mm Mortar
- The Gigas is the preferred indirect fire mortar of the Esper United Soldiery, and has been in production since the Esper Wars. The Esperian Naval Marines, Airmobile Regulars, Battlesuit Regulars, and civil defense militias throughout the Esper Union use the mortar. The Gigas is an indirect fire weapon, and is mounted at an eighty-degree angle. It is intended to fire over a long distance to hit enemies that are out of sight of the firing crew of three (one man to fire the mortar, one to load it, and one to prepare the ammunition). Every rifle platoon carries a single mortar, and every soldier carries a mortar round, while heavy weapons platoons and companies carry many mortar units. The Gigas is the signature weapon of heavy weapons platoons and companies in the Esper Union. It functions as light, man portable artillery that is ideal for anti-personnel and anti-light armor units. In addition to the indirect fire mode, it can do direct fire with a site that allows it to hit infantry and armor the gunner can see. The rounds used by the Gigas are typically high explosive, but can also be armor piercing against armored targets (typically aided by a spotter or satellites), fragmentation, or white phosphorous for anti-personnel and illumination. They can also contain chemical or biological weapons (though this is not officially sanctioned by the government or commonly done).
