In the First Mana War, a huge dragonlike creature exuding powerful Mana appeared to destroy the Mana Fortress. A brave knight, wielding a Mana Sword, attempted to stop it. The resulting destruction caused the Dark Ages of the Mana Dimension. In the Second Mana War, the events nearly played out again, and although the the destruction was far less widespread, the Mana Tree was destroyed.

Some have interpreted the Manabeast as an agent of the Gods and Goddesses, or the personification of nature's wrath against those who have despoiled and abused Mana. During the Dark Ages, some even worshiped the Mana Beast itself as a deity, the Purifier of the World. Many believe that it is a form of Elemental spirit, much like more commonly known spirits such as Undine.

It is no surprise that the RAF named their most powerful ships after such a beast.

There are quite a few Manabeasts in Elementalism (Alter), and they hold a very different place in lore.
