Fleshing out and improving the portrayal of religion in Kupopolis is something I really want to strive for...I want to develop them more as belief systems and worldviews rather than simply something tacked on to a character. I was thinking the other day of the best succinct way to describe my major religions' central themes, and here is what I came up with:

  • Rainericism-the struggle to become a better person
  • Draggoneth-humility in the face of God
  • Lunarianism-rising to fill one's part in the divine plan
  • il'Bleu-correcting injustice in the world
  • Elementalism-just have fun
  • k'Tyr-the destructive power of human desires

And even though Tahranism is Nate's creation, it seems fair to describe it as the quest for knowledge and truth.

I concede that this might be a little simplistic, but at least it's something. --Celiose 18:11, 23 July 2006 (CDT)

I'd say Elementalism is more about being in harmony with nature, but it's your call. Xstryker 18:28, 24 July 2006 (CDT)

"Ado"==

Isn't it a little premature to assign "Ado" to the Web Pantheon? From my understanding, the Web Pantheon set off for The Place Which Is No More before the discovery of the Gate Dimension, and thus the Gate gods are considered a separate pantheon, as are the Dragon Gods. If "Ado" turns out to be one of the Web Pantheon gods in disguise, fine, but has the story actually suggested that yet? If that does happen to be the case, I wouldn't telegraph the surprise on the wiki. Also, this is the religion portal, not just a list of gods. The links in that particular section should refer to religions based around the Web Pantheon, not the gods themselves (who are really just characters, in a sense). Xstryker 09:05, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

Perhaps some clarification on what, exactly, constitutes the "Web Pantheon" is in order? (for the benefit of newer contributors to Kupopolis) I agree that maybe some more clarification about Ado is needed. Scen 09:10, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

I think Travis ought to make the Web Pantheon page less of a stub. Xstryker 16:00, 26 July 2006 (CDT)
And my definition of the Web Pantheon is the walkin-talkin gods who appeared in story via Aurora before the end of the Great War and their departure/banishment.
I think that's a fair and accurate definition. If you'll excuse me putting on my "bossy" hat for a moment, the Web Pantheon deities with the exceptions of Tahran and Dorian (who were Jon's babies) were my niche. My feeling is that the current lineup is not up for debate. I fully realize that this is hypocritical of me, as I'm considering retconning one more in. I don't want to offend anyone or start a flame war, but to be blunt I think I'm the only person with the authority to make that kind of a sweeping change in something that established (ask me about my feelings on Tahranism some time if you really want a flame war). --Aurora 13:08, 21 August 2006 (CDT)
I personally don't give a shit about the web pantheon either way. But if it's something aurora originally made, and aurora is back, then I see no reason to say "so and so is part of the web pantheon" or "so and so isn't part of the web pantheon." Nobody can say Ado isn't a god/goddess, but she probably belongs in a category other than 'web pantheon.' --JD 18:19, 21 August 2006 (CDT)

Cross-posted from Web Pantheon talk

As long as we're having this discussion about the Web Pantheon... I wonder if we shouldn't move "Lunarism" and "il'Bleu" to separate distinctions. While those religions as they were written into Kupopolis have been around for a while, they don't really have a place among the Light Gods, since they're not traditionally counted among their number. I think both of them are probably better categorized as Monotheistic -- especially since I don't think it's stated anywhere that Bleu or Seliane are banished in the PTINM. Scen 09:15, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

Cross responded - I'm pretty sure Bleu was one of the regular Light Gods. Xstryker 15:59, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

Regular Responded: No, she wasn't. Travis developed her fairly recently, specifically with his il'Bleu profile on the OmniNet. Scen 20:24, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

Yes, she was - she was just a name on a page for years until Travis breathed life into her. The same with Tyr. There are a couple Light and Dark gods from Aurora's list that still are in limbo, such as Dorian and whoever was supposed to become the Light God for Ticondera. Xstryker 20:33, 26 July 2006 (CDT)

Even if that is true (and it is since I talked to Travis and he said it was), Seliane wasn't a Light God. Scen 05:21, 27 July 2006 (CDT)

Agree. But we need Travis to suggest what category Lunarianism fits in.

So, getting around to some of these questions that are a little late...

First of all, Dorian was actually created as part of a plot by JonN200X shortly after Aurora left. I think in conversations we've made him God of Betrayal, which makes a certain degree of sense. Also, Chrystalis and Tahran's daughters were supposed to become the Light Gods for Ticondera.

Seliane and Lunarianism present an interesting case, because in my early write-up I clearly describe her as part of the Web Pantheon, and she's obviously not intended to be an evil diety. I would probably place her among the neutral dieties of the Pantheon, along with Uel Himself.

Incidentally, this and the Great War write-up has spurred me to think about how we can possibly consider developing some of the other gods. (Giving religion a more serious treatment in Kupopolis is one of my cause celebres). --Celiose 04:26, 16 August 2006 (CDT)

Move to Culture?

I think Religion could be folded into the new Culture portal. Xstryker 17:10, 26 July 2006 (CDT)
