Can I classify members of the Executive Council as "Bureaucrats"? --Xstryker 10:07, 13 September 2006 (CDT)

I'd rather you didn't. They'd be more accurately classified as "gangsters" or "crime-lords" or somesuch equivalent.--Nick 13:46, 13 September 2006 (CDT)
  • Also (and I really don't want to start a *thing* here), while it may be technically accurate, I'm not sure if anyone would really want any of their characters classified as "Bureaucrats." I mean, who gets up in the morning and says I'm going to write about my bureaucrats now? No, we want to write about our alien space pirate hotchick with whips and gadgets and stuff. I really appreciate you asking about this first, Adam. I think this is a prime example where, rather than being accurate, a category has the potential to appear dismissive of someone's story elements, rather than being helpful to other people in understanding them. Also... boo on me for not providing any profiles for them yet. --Nick 13:56, 13 September 2006 (CDT)
    • Tyurin Cage is the one I was thinking about. I was trying to think of a profession name for his current role as Shale. Also, please note that I could easily forsee myself waking up and deciding to write about dysfunctional bureaucracy rather than alien pirates with whips, although that's taking your metaphor too literally. In my case, it would be human hotchick secret agents with guns and gadgets - but still, I think of people holding unelected cabinet level positions as bureaucrats - secretaries of state or whatever, as well as lower-level government functionaries. I'm not saying that matches the executive council of the Combine very well - that's why I asked. But I see nothing wrong with it as a category to describe those who fit it. On the wiki thus far, that's just Alastair Brand - if Jay2K doesn't like that as a description, he's welcome to say so, but I think its accurate and not at all insulting. --Xstryker 15:05, 13 September 2006 (CDT)
