A capital-S Sorceress is a mage of the sort that appears only a few times in a generation. What separates a Sorceress from an ordinary mage is her ability to create Mana internally without tapping into any source; her own lifeforce is what fuels her spells. Sorceresses are also unique in that they must pass their powers to a successor or else they cannot die in peace, and each and every one of them has a soulmate called a Knight who acts as her guardian and protector.

It should also be mentioned that some Sorceresses have what is known as a Court; these are other soulbonded individuals who help her perform her duties. In addition to the aforementioned Knight, there is also the Patron, who provides for the Sorceress' material needs, and the Handmaiden, who is an apprentice of sorts, and invariably becomes the Sorceress' successor.

Sorceresses couple frightening power with an iron-clad will, and can either work life-saving miracles or plunge the world into darkness. It is a terrible path, one that very often leads a Sorceress into madness or evil, particularly those who have lost their Knights. Empress Salynae XXIII of Ticondera is an infamous example of a Sorceress who went mad with power after severing ties with her Knight, Valsu Saizer. It can be said that Valsu continued in his role as her Knight, founding the TFF in order to stop her before she could harm herself, and Ticondera further.

Chrystalis was the first Sorceress, with Tahran as her Knight. The term is gender-neutral, despite what one would think, though most Sorceresses are female. The capital-S Sorcerer is an entirely different title, though at face value they are similar. The major difference is that Sorcerers are almost always alone; they have minions and sycophants, not people soulbonded to them who aid them out of love. Thanatos was the first Sorcerer, and according to the beliefs of The Shining Path, the reason he is so desperately obsessed with Chrystalis is that he is a fallen Knight.
