An ancient, mysterious people shrouded in intrigue, the Sheikah is less a race than a secretive clan. They are racial cousins of the Hylians, sharing their long pointed ears, and same general build, though Sheikah tend to be leaner and more muscular due to their intense physical regimen. Sheikah could very well be mistaken for Hylians were it not for their distinctive crimson eyes, pale skin, and generally silver-platinum hair.

Their origins are a mystery, but the Sheikah hold themselves as the lorekeepers of the Hyrulian people, and have passed down the legends and history of ancient Hylia through their stories and songs for thousands of years. In addition to being keepers of ancient lore, the Sheikah are renowned for their fierce loyalty to the Hyrulian royal family, swearing blood oaths to protect them in ancient times, and have served them unwavering for millenia as watchful guardians and protectors, going back to the days of Nohansen the God-King. To better execute their roles, the Sheikah developed their own art of ninjitsu, called the Shadow Arts, consisting of complex systems of martial arts, and ways of moving and communicating using stealth. It is their reputation as fierce, clever ninjas that earned them the nickname "Shadow Folk" throughout history, and they have ever served as the watchful eyes and ears of the Hylian royals.

In modern times, their number has dwindled substantially, and their role as guardians of the royal family is largely ceremonial, though they continue to act as security for them.
