The ancient, legendary first King of the Hylia, and a national icon. He was considered by many to be the greatest sorcerer the World of Light had ever known, and was known and worshipped as the God-King. Nohansen was the young leader of the most prominent Hylian clan, who united the disparate clans under his leadership and was crowned their king. He was the first mortal to enter the Sacred Realm where the Triforce lay, and was the only mortal ever to set foot inside the Temple of Light to claim it.

According to myth, there was a great solar eclipse a year after Nohansen's coronation. While in the midst of a great festival to commemorate the anniversary in the Temple at Lake Hylia, he slipped into a trance for nine days. The Goddess Nayru blessed him with visions of a great temple in another world, and when he finally awoke, his eyes shone with a golden light. He immediately set off on a journey, and when he returned, he possessed the great Golden Power itself. In turn, he went to each of the corner of the land to meet with the races there, and blessed them with the power of Triforce. Each time, the people immediately fell to their knees and hailed him Nohansen the God-King.

Bards sang of his great beauty and wisdom, and legend has it that he was even a lover of the Goddess Nayru herself. He ruled peacefully for approximately one thousand years, and died peacefully, but not before passing the Triforce to his eldest son, Daphnes, who was the first to claim the title of Emperor.

Many Hyrulians, particularly members of the Royal Family, believe Nohansen's spirit has lived on through the millenia and is still guiding his people even into the modern era, though this belief is waning over time as many of the old Hyrulian traditions fall to the forces of secularism and modernization. Modern-day Hyland monarchists have claimed him as a powerful symbol of Hyrule's glorious past.

Queen Zelda, the current figurehead ruler of the Hyland Republic, can trace her lineage directly back to Nohansen.
