Osprey is believed to have been born among the other Lancers who cultivate a noble, shamanistic culture high on the summits of the Denadoro Mountains. Osprey has himself once or twice mentioned in passing that he is from Denadoro Prefecture. Census records from Denadoro have been searched through to no avail in an attempt to learn more of ZAPS's most notable infiltrator. It is likely that Bekkler either had the records destroyed, or polymorphed them into a bowl of pudding which he then fed to his pet gopher Lucius. The former is assumed to be the case.

Osprey, like many others of his inclining in the ZAPS, is a master of Gatian Shadow Magic. For years Osprey was the pre-eminent ZAPS spy and infiltrator, sent by Bekkler himself on a number of important missions to gather intelligence and uncover secrets. In his early career, Osprey had something of a flare for the dramatic, and would always leave a single grey feather left behind, usually wedged in under a window sill or in a bookshelf, after completing a mission.

His arsenal consists of (among other things): an enchanted Katana known as Shiva's Edge, Shadow Magics, an assortment of throwing stars, various smoke pelets, assorted Ninja weaponry, hooks, rope, knives, and a powerful itch powder concoction. Osprey never uses guns, as is typical of many of ZAPS's agents.

Osprey is noted for taking part in the Defense of Egmont, where he met up with the Shield, Fara Somers and Roxanne. He was then eaten by Grendel, after which he moved in with Roxanne and became her permanent house guest. During the ZAPS Corruption Hearings, Osprey and several other top-shelf ZAPS agents were fired by Bekkler. So now he is Roxanne's permanent unemployed house guest. He has interviewed for employment with the RFIA, and has been approached with an offer of employment by S/31.
