Marathon Apparatus

A shadowy intelligence and special operations organization which existed during the latter days of the third Roanese Empire largely in opposition to that empire. It participated in espionage and disinformation campaigns against the empire and also infiltrated, from time to time, the national armies of countries which the empire was engaged in the invasion of.

The Apparatus was so named for its founder, a man called only Marathon who seemingly came out of nowhere with the funds and knowledge necessary to fight the empire. It is theorized that this man and the current Citizen ruler of the Republic of Man are one and the same.

When Carlos Bichass was overthrown and the empire remade into the Republic of Man, the Marathon Apparatus faded into obscurity. There is a theory that most of its agents, however, were rolled into Excel Force, providing further evidence towards Citizen Marathon having been behind the Apparatus and the end of the empire.
