Genruo was an ancient scholar, contemporary with Shang-Ti when he was mortal. One of the most prolific writers of his time, Genruo penned works on all manner of subject, including strategy, government, food criticism, philosophy and poetry.

One of his works, the Canon of Changes, was recognized by the deity Sung Chiang as being a prophecy disguised as really really bad poetry. This occured long after Genruo had died and his spirit passed into the afterlife, so Sung Chiang abducted Genruo's spirit to help him decipher the rest of his prophecy.
