Benedictus Ovidius Atticus

Benedictus Ovidius Atticus, an Equestrian is the prefect of the Draconian Guard of Thebes--formerly bodyguard to the Empress Clementia and still the only armed force legally allowed within the boundaries of the city. He was temporarily expelled from this position during the Days of Wrath when Nero the Usurper took power.

Prior to being named Prefect of the Guard, Atticus was military governor of Osroene, a frontier province in the northeast of the Empire. This area had been subject to frequent attacks from outposts of Atalanis, but Atticus learned quickly to repel such incursions. He is a capable strategist, on par with General Fabulus himself. He also fancies himself a nation-builder: his current 'pet project' is something he calls the "articles of the republic", a new foundation for the government of Thebes and its territory. (He is loyal to the Empress--he just doesn't expect her to return anytime soon, and life must go on.)

"Ben" is currently one of the ruling triumvirate of Thebes. He doesn't like being called Benny.
