Esper (Sapient)
Powerful magical beings. Although the Esper Dimension is named for them, they are not native to that dimension, but rather a linked dimension known as the "Esper World." Scholars from Aryth have described them as "living strands of magic." Espers are innately magical, and can display a variety of magical powers, depending on their nature.
Espers have a variety of appearances and bodies, ranging from humanoid to giant to dwarf to moogle to inanimate objects. The Espers appearance relfects their nature and their powers. Beings of almost pure magic, they defy all laws of scientific biology.
The Gestahlan Empire harvested them for magicite, but such an act would be regarded as criminal virtually throughout the Web today, as the sapient nature of Espers is almost universally recognized.
The Celpo is rumored to have used the Leash to capture and enslave many Espers.
In times past, there were many Espers -- the Fourteen Against Kefka borrowed their power in order to save the world. The hero Terra Barnford, who later became the goddess Rainere, was a half-Esper.
Today, however, only a few Espers are known to be living.
Known Espers in today's Web:
- Ammit, an appraiser in Albrook's Mystic Ward
- Baatezu
- Lera Casterian, like Terra, is a half-Esper
