**Security Issues**
The recent breach of security on the Wiki is a huge concern for all of us. Let's talk about ways to keep little snots like "Admin" from catching us with our pants down again -- because as much as I loved spending all day reversing that innane little turdwipe's random changes, in an ideal world we shouldn't have to worry about pissants like that trodding on all our hard work. So, here I'd like for us to discuss ways to protect the wiki, and maybe have a followup on what's been done as far as tracking "Admin" down and letting him know that he picked the wrong IS to mess with. --Scen 17:24, 29 August 2006 (CDT)

Community Projects
Let's use this space to discuss projects to work on.
Kupopolis Media Space
I bring this up because we used to have a ton of multimedia content (mostly generated by Moggie, Jerry and Jip) that is now somewhat lacking from the community. I understand that Jerry doesn't want graphics going up on his webspace -- and with the recent raping of bandwidths, who can blame him?! -- but I think that we should look at setting up another media page where people can store their Kupop-related graphics, sounds, videos, flash animations, and then potentially link them to the Wiki. In particular, I think it might be cool for nation profiles to come equipped with graphics of national flags, maps, and et cetera. I'd be willing to spring for the extra webspace, I just need somebody to hold my hand and walk me through it because I'm so not that web-savvy. Scen 00:09, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- As you all probably know because I'm always going on about it, most of my resources are devoted to kupop, while the rest are devoted to variant (leaving a tiny bit for my personal stuff, of which there used to be more but now there hardly is anymore because I never have time to make crap like that anymore), otherwise I'd be happy to host whatever. Sliver herself takes up a good amount of space and bandwidth though, so. One solution would be to set up a community imageshack account, and just upload any kupop-related pictures, flags, maps, etc to that. If you want to set up an actual hosting account for yourself though I'd be happy to answer any questions you have regarding how to do that. I'm not really up on current pricing models, but I know my host has some pretty good deals for shared hosting plans. Like $10-$40 a year. depends on how much space you want. (ask adam, he may have a spare kupop-related domain floating around still) --JD 02:43, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- Nah, I gave up all my domains. Tight budget. There are lots of places that will let you store some images for free, though. Maybe as an interim solution. --Xstryker 07:26, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- Such as the afformentioned imageshack. --JD 10:13, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- Well, since all we'd basically be using it for is image storage (unless Mikey wanted to go and do something like design a whole proper Media Page like he had before), imageshack sounds okay to my plebeian ears. Couple questions: (1) did somebody say ¿free? (2) Price aside, how much space are we looking at here if we go with imageshack? and are there any of the traditional drawbacks that we typically expect to find with free stuff on the internet? (like ads, pop-ups, ads, and so forth) --Scen 11:56, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- Image shack is free, and there's no limit on space. It's not a hosting service proper though, just an image hosting service. So if we want to set up a 'media page' we'll have to have actual hosting somewhere (or just use the wiki as one). I just made an account over there which we can all use to see how it works. I'll put the link on the main page. --JD 12:13, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- Thanks!! I uploaded one of my maps, and then tried a couple times (unsuccessfully to get it to embed into a Wiki page, but this is not yet something I know how to do. --Scen 16:55, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- I went ahead and put it on there. The actual image, not the thumb. I guess in wiki you link an image by just putting in the full url, http:// and everything. --JD 17:28, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
Kupopolis Mapping Project
Related to the above: I'm still working on my Kupopolis Mapping Project. At the moment I have nation maps of Eblan, Mysidia and Surgate completed, and a full-dimensional map of the Light Dimension (finally reconciling the existing separate maps of Eastern Light and Ticondera) that, per Adam's approval a while back, is official and ready to go. Anyone who wants to see the maps I've done or who has anything for me to work from so the mapping project can get a lay of the entire Web of Worlds, please do let me know, or reply here. Scen 00:09, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- I totally found the original map of Triangle I drew back in 1999 or so, when I was packing crap at my other house last weekend. Also, the original map of blaenau gwent. --JD 02:45, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
- I'm debating on starting an interactive kupop map done in flash--one that would show not just the words, but the different "dimensions" solar systems. It would also let you save new locations to the map--but its kind of a big project to undertake and I don't like putting locational contrants on the Kupopolis universe. What do you guys think? Linking
I think there's a lot of value in including links to relevant posts at the bottom of an article. To make an external link, use single square brackets instead of double square brackets. Don't forget the http:// - it's vital.
Religion
There's a lot of discussion about religion lately. Which gods are considered part of the Web Pantheon? Should the religion portal be folded into the culture portal? Can we sum up each of the Web's relgions with a philosophy that represents their overall point of view? Should gods be treated like regular characters?
- Barring some bizarre retcon I'm not aware of, the Web Pantheon is exactly how it's listed on here, except for maybe one more neutral I may or may not retcon in. I'm treating Chrystalis as something in-between a god and a regular character, but she's always been a rather special case. I also think religion's important enough to have its own portal, but that's just me. --Aurora 08:39, 19 August 2006 (CDT)
Neo
Since Neo is over, the number of articles we can create on various topics is finite. Did religion play enough of a role to get its own portal? Did culture? I think for Kupopolis Neo, we should roll Religion into Affiliations and Culture into Geography. I also favor splitting Artifacts into Magic and Technology.
Templates
Who wants to be the first to get us some wikipedia style infobox templates?
Xstryker 16:57, 1 August 2006 (CDT)
OK, I made one. Check out Template:Communist Protectorate or see it in action on the Communist Protectorate page.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Color and Image parameters to work when I copied Template:NavigationBox from Wikipedia. --Xstryker 11:06, 22 August 2006 (CDT)
General Discussion
Chat here. Or not.
Hey, why is the edit date on the Recent changes page set to Greenwich Mean Time? Xstryker 19:49, 31 July 2006 (CDT)
- Because Mike is a British agent sent to ensure the interests of the Queen are adequately represented in Kupopolis. Scen 20:07, 31 July 2006 (CDT)
- Its just the default time. Would you prefer me to stick it Pacific? Michael 22:03, 31 July 2006 (CDT)
- Pacific, Central, or Eastern would be fine. Xstryker 22:24, 31 July 2006 (CDT)
- ... UNLESS THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE QUEEN WANTS! Scen 05:53, 1 August 2006 (CDT)
- Ok, the default time is built into the program as greenwich time, and the little hack on their site to change it doesn't work with our version. So Just change the time in the preferences, ok? Michael 04:26, 23 August 2006 (CDT)
- ... UNLESS THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE QUEEN WANTS! Scen 05:53, 1 August 2006 (CDT)
- Pacific, Central, or Eastern would be fine. Xstryker 22:24, 31 July 2006 (CDT)
So, should the links point to Alter Dragon or Alter-Dragon? Xstryker 09:19, 4 August 2006 (CDT)
- Okay, I'm a nub and don't know how you guys are 'chatting' here (this is Nick btw). On the question, I've been guilty of being terribly inconsistent, using it both ways and such. Will try from now on to stick with precedent and use it was described on the story boards, with the hyphen. Alter-Dragon.--Nick 10:28, 4 August 2006 (CDT)
- Jerry showed me how to use the timestamp. ignorance averted.--Nick 10:28, 4 August 2006 (CDT)
- Been fooling around a bit with my special admin privliges that no one else has--consequently, I took off the "donations" link and added a imageshack link. Also, any future links to our donations page will refer to itself as "Give Moggie Monies". WikiSysop 05:01, 23 August 2006 (CDT)
