The Republic Foreign Intelligence Agency was formed in the wake of the disaster of the Federal Security Bureau. The RFIA has many more constraints than the FSB, not the least of which is that it is prohibited from operating on Tasnican soil or spying on Tasnican citizens. Wild Bill Angleton, a former ‘resources adjuster’ for the Kuat Consortium, was tapped to lead the RFIA. Angleton is patient, and takes a systemic approach to spying, looking for patterns to help predict future actions.

The RFIA’s main strong suites are in electronic intelligence, that is, cryptography and spy sats. It takes a passive, information-gathering stance, and rarely engages in interventionist covert operations. RFIA’s main points of observation are the communist Web and the Fringe. Some in the RFIA feel that their service is not properly appreciated because of the Tasnican phobia of government power.

Angleton is not well-loved by many in Kenny's ministry; Rycar Mountbatten derides his intelligence assessments as too sanguine, while Sandra Himmselsten believes that RFIA operations agitate other operations. (This is particularly true as the use of diplomatic cover is common practice in the RFIA).
