Tehaynis Mordent
Tehaynis Mordent was the last Chancellor of Guardia to serve the Kingdom prior to Doan's Restoration. A retired physician and former bureaucrat, he was appointed to oversee the Royal Bureaucracy in the year 2255 by the young King Corinius, who wished to lessen the hold that the Syndicates held over the Guardian government.
Mordent proved capable at holding his own in negociations with Syndicate leaders, and to his credit was able to reduce the influence of Syndicate directors over national policy. But Mordent had his own agenda: believing that Corinius was unfit to govern, Mordent (who insisted upon serving as the King's doctor, rather than the Syndicate caretakers who had been assigned to him) was responsible for infecting the King with an engineered strain of syphilis. With complete control over access to the King, Mordent was able to control the disease's symptoms and openly claimed to have no idea what was wrong with Corinius' health. Presuming to name the mallady "Corinius' Disease," Mordent pressed to have himself named Regent of the Kingdom in 2257, after the King's symptoms progressed into madness.
As Regent, Mordent lead the Kingdom through turbulent times, including Ozziemodo's invasion and the Denadoro Uprisings. In addition to tangles with the Mystics, Mordent sought to further hinder the influence of the Syndicates by having the director of the Arris Syndicate, Jareth Pendouris, assassinated. Mordent hoped that this would spark a fight between Arris and its chief rival, the Trann Syndicate, but somehow Jareth's son Doan was able to discover the truth behind his father's murder. Doan exposed Mordent's treachery, and forged an alliance with the director of the Trann Syndicate, Natba Ashtear. Ashtear then rallied all three Syndicates together, along with the Knights of the Square Table, and mounted a campaign to unseat the Chancellor.
Mordent, expelled from the Castle by the Knights, holed up with his loyalists in a bunker outside of Truce and held off a combined Syndicate siege for only two weeks before taking his own life.
