Sir Grinian is one of the five Knights of the Square Table, by far the oldest of the current assembly of Table Knights. Grinian wields the sword Marasama, forged by the Guru Melchior specifically for the Knights of the Square Table. Marasama houses the twin spirits Mara and Sama, relatives of the more powerful and certainly more infamous Masa and Mune. Mara and Sama, like Masa and Mune, have a combined form of comparable strength. Grinian is the patron of the Order of the Wind.

Grinian was born in the year the Syndicate Wars broke out. His father was a metallurgist who had just immigrated from Acacia, and almost immediately he found there was a demand for his metallurgical know-how right in his new home of Truce. Grinian grew up knowing nothing but the War; everything in his life revolved around it, from his father's employment in fashioning weapons and spare parts to the air raid drills conducted almost daily at the public school Grinian attended. When he was old enough he joined the Guardian Army simply because it seemed part of a logical progression.

For the better part of the War, the Guardian Army was simply a police force employed to keep the Syndicates from destroying the Kingdom's capital. As he and the War turned twenty, Grinian applied for Knighthood and was accepted into the Order of the Wind, who were the Knighthood's advance scouts and first-strike fighters. Grinian was the first one to see the need for some modernization in the Knighthood, and was the one who approached Sir Amphos with the idea of mounting the Wind Knights on JetBikes, to make the Order's scouts more mobile in the face of the mechanized Syndicate armies. As Grinian's predecessor, Sir Gyllig, stepped down late in the year 2282, Amphos promoted the visionary young knight to Patron of the Order of the Wind. He has served in this capacity to the present day.
