Saladragon
Saladragons are a native species of quasi-amphibious lizard on Avalon. They can typically grow up to a length of 3 meters and weigh up to 70 kilograms. They are carnivorous, subsisting mostly on carrion, though they are ambush predators and will attack live prey when opportunities present themselves.
They have venomous glands in the lower jaw, and their venom has a paralytic toxin and an anticoagulant protein within it. Live prey that are bitten and escape will eventually collapse either from paralysis or blood loss, allowing the saladragon to move in for a proper kill. Additionally, they can produce a brief burst of flame from their mouths, which is used to cook meat before eating, as a weapon against attack, and in dominance rituals. They are solitary creatures, coming together only to breed and eat.
Saladragons are distinct from crocodilians due to their longer limbs and smoother skin.
