History

Malvo Thames began his career in the Guardian Royal Navy, and rose quickly through the ranks to take command of his own ship, the GSS Unquenchable in 2261 at the age of 20. In 2265 he assumed command of the Navy as Grand Admiral, after most of the fleet was destroyed by the army of the Trann Syndicate. He retained this post throughout the Syndicate Wars, directing GRN fighter planes in coordination with Doan Pendouris' Arris Syndicate forces to eventually win the war.

When Doan became King, he retained Admiral Thames as an advisor and key member of his military staff, which was otherwise comprised entirely of the Knights of the Square Table. His influence under Doan's reign was such that, when it came time for Guardia to create a fleet of space ships, Thames was chosen over one of the Knights to head it up. The Guardian Space Fleet was thus established without the oversight of the Knights who tended to dominate Guardia's ground forces. As space travel and technology advanced and became more prevalent throughout the Web of Worlds, the GSF quickly became the primary branch of Guardia's military services.

Admiral Thames is perhaps the greatest starfleet strategist in the history of the Web of Worlds. His signature contributions to space warfare include a heavy reliance on starfighter strike forces, as well as precisely coordinated capital ship movement in ship to ship combat. He was among the earliest spacefleet commanders to adapt common naval strategies to a fully three-dimensional paradigm, where other commanders had initial difficulties in thinking with all three dimensions in mind. He is also said to be among the greatest living starfighter pilots, though he has never flown flight missions that anybody has documented.
