Guften

Pale sluglike humanoid creatures. Although most were human-sized, some of the older Guften were much larger (8 feet or more, which made moving through certain underground tunnels difficult). Effectively blind, with one atrophied eye, though they could see with a form of sonar. Although their "mouth" produced this highly modulated sonar and communication, it did not link to a Guften's digestive tract. Guften could "feed" on liquids through permeable membranes on their hands. Guften lacked feet; their snakelike lower half slithered for locomation.

Believed to orignate underground, the Guften at some point centuries ago attempted to conquer the surface and established the Guftensis Empire. They enslaved many humans, whose blood they used for feedstock.

At some point they made the mistake of angering Zahd, who turned all their cities into salt. The Guften were forced underground, where they warred with the Ulmsodin dwarves.
