Caskobo

Caskobos are an uncommon relative of the common chocobo, similar to grimfowl. They can be found in deep forests or rain forests on Avalon, but due to their smaller size and less amicable temperament, they are not suitable for domestication as mounts, livestock, or pack animals. Their name is a portmanteau of "casque + chocobo," and derived from the word "casque" in reference to the horn-like crest on their heads.

Caskobos are flightless birds, and little is known about them since they tend to shy away from contact with humans or other sapient creatures. They are omnivorous, though their primary diet tends to be fruit. Despite their shy nature, they can be extremely aggressive when provoked, and can be territorial around their nests.

Their wings are small, and have anywhere from 5-8 remeges, which have been reduced to stiff keratinous quills. Their beaks are longer and more pointed than a chocobo's beak, and their claws tend to be larger. Caskobos are three-toed, and the second toe sports a much larger, dagger-like claw. When attacking, Caskobos tend to deliver powerful kicks with their legs to rend with their claws, though they have been known to peck, stabbing with their beak. Their colorations tend to be darker, tending toward the black, except for their heads and neck, which are more brightly colored.

Their calls are lower pitched than a chocobo's. These calls, combined with their darker color, the casque, and their aggression when provoked, has led some to call them "the demonic cousin of the chocobo." There is no proof that caskobos are indeed of demonic creation or influence.

OOC Trivia

Caskobos are the Kupopolis equivalent of cassowaries. Jay 2K thought them up independently of grimfowl.
