Angela Halon

The "Great Gray Lady" of Tasnican politics, Angela Halon, a dwarf, was already over a century old by the time she was elected to the office of Prime Minister. As leader of Tasnica during much of the early Web, she was determined that that her humble Republic would play "with the big boys." "The world is bigger now then we ever knew, and Tasnica shall have its place at the heart of it all!" she proudly proclaimed. Tasnica was a little ahead of the curve in industrialization, and Angela had no qualms throwing her weight around. In her first term, she fought a war in the Dragon Dimension which established the Shah of Auria as a Tasnican puppet, and ensured that that wealthy port remained a gateway for Tasnica's goods in the dimension. Unlike later Tasnican imperialists, Angela did not outright annex territory, preferring to maintain local rulers that were hopelessly dependent on Tasnican power.

At the time, most of the Web was ruled by monarchies. They found Angela, a commoner (!), a woman (!!), a dwarf (!!!), and a former merchant (!!!!) unbearably coarse. Angela actually relished antagonizing them, even King Tukhong IV of Eblan, who was ostensibly her ally.

She had little patience for domestic matters, once saying that she didn't want to be bothered with budgets while she was trying to establish "our Republic's place in the sun." Unlike her predecessor, she was not a doctrinaire Conservative; she just liked to win.

Angela's hectoring nature won her few friends in the party, but her jingoism struck a cord with the populace and her continuation of the existing laissez-faire policies earned her the support of business interests.

Ironically, for all her bravado in foreign policy, she failed to anticipate that events in Ticondera would cause the Great War; indeed, she was practically spoiling for a war with Baron. This is what ultimately cost her support; beating up on Dragon was on thing, and it was important to talk a good fight, but being the aggressor in a Great Power war went too far. Angela was succeeded by the much more affable neko, Wilhelm Klinten.

Along with Rhodes Palmerston, Angela is the only living former Prime Minister.
