Marcus Grainger
Marcus Grainger was a decorated Albrooker Grand Army vet who won several medals for valor during the Great War. He was a military man through and through, and when the magitek-caused injury to his right leg finally forced him to retire, the GA honored his years of service with a promotion to the largely honorary rank of Lieutenant General.
Marcus met and fell in love with Arielle Lysandir when the lovely young Elven soprano entertained GA troops stationed in Ticondera during the post-KMT War occupation. The two got married and quickly had a son, Fabian. When their son was twelve, however, Arielle died in a car accident, something that would change Marcus forever.
Arielle's premature death devastated Marcus, and he never really got over it. He turned to alcohol, and took his bitterness over his sudden widowerhood out on Fabian, whom he never cared for anyway. The two had a turbulent relationship at best; Marcus wanted to mold Fabian into the ultimate soldier, but Fabian was a natural artist and a dreamer and would have none of it. The last straw for Marcus came when Fabian dropped out of the University of Albrook, declaring his intentions to become a rock star. Marcus disowned his only child and cut him off from his inheritance (legal wrangling over the substantial trust fund Arielle set aside for Fabian was another issue of contention for the two).
Marcus died alone at the age of 52 from a rare liver disease, no doubt brought about by his heavy drinking habit.
