Verteidan

A Medinan office and branch of government, mixing traditional executive roles with military power.

Military/Executive Body

As an organization, the Verteidan is a branch of the Medinan Armed Forces, consisting of commandoes and infantry, as well as numerous military specialists. They are not numerous, and they are bound by the terms of the Medinan Constitution to operations solely on the Medinan continent. Part peace-keeping force, part security, and part domestic intelligence agency, the Verteidan performs many covert and highly specialized operations. The highest ranking members of the organization include Mako, Sancho Dune, Guerrapieto, and Briac Cuyler.

Singular Office

Verteidan also refers to the singular office, the titular head of the organization, who is appointed by the Medinan Senate. The current Verteidan is D'troth Alazhar. Originally concieved by Rhodes Palmerston as a co-executive, meant to balance power with the Prime Minister, Alazhar has been restrained in the use of his executive powers, focusing entirely on domestic peace-keeping and order, especially in the crime-ridden south coast region of Medina.

Power and Actions

Though the Verteidan maintains offices and bases all over continental Medina, for the past three years they have been located primarily in Coast Town, waging constant battles with local smugglers, drug runners, and crime kingpins. From this vantage point D'troth has been able to keep a close watch on the Scandian bases in the Velorian Island chain.
