Ceirmont Women's University

Located in Toroia, CWU has among the strongest medical schools in the Web. Historically only women were allowed admittance, but this changed during the Men's Suffrage movement in 27 WR. Despite the change in admission policy, the institution never changed its name.

Nowhere in the Web is the issue of abortion felt more strongly than in Toroia, and CWU is a hotbed of pro-choice thought. During Toroia`s fascist days, this conflicted with the prevailing Fascist stance of pro-life (large populations were deemed more important than individual rights).

The CWU mascot is the Fox.

History

In ancient times, the Toroian High Priestesses who ruled the nation built a tower far in the South of Toroia. The tower was intended as a training grounds for members of the clergy, and especially for testing those who would ascend to the rank of High Priestess. In time, an expanded parish and facilities grew around the tower; clerics and teachers of scripture, as well as support staff, moved to the vicinity of the tower. Formal classes began to be taught there, in subjects that were not just religious: mathematics, literature and the burgeoning medical sciences.

It was High Priestess Ceirmont who formally transformed the place into what was from then on known as the Ceirmont Academy. This was where Toroia's elite would send their daughters for first class education, though the strongest programs at the Academy were still theological seminary for priestesses and medicinal healing arts. Men, naturally, were not admitted.

Around the time of the early Web, the Toroian government changed the official name of the Academy to Ceirmont Women's University. Other changes were also made, and much of the religious nature of the school was underplayed, so that it could gain proper accreditation by larger Web academia. As an institution of higher learning, CWU began recruiting in other nations for students to come for schooling. Since much of the Web was dominated by men and patriarchy in the early years, CWU became one of only a few places where women could receive a quality education. As a medical school, CWU earned a reputation as being a leader in both research and training of young doctors, and is entirely responsible for there being such a large presence of women in the Web medical field from very early on.

After the Great War, Toroia's reconstruction sparked a social revolution among Toroian males. Lobbying for equality, males in Toroia demanded entry into CWU and other traditionally women-only institutions. Because Toroia was run by women, the Men's Suffrage movement leaders were listened to calmly and rationally, and a timetable was set up to gradually ease into the change over the course of several months and years.

CWU is now co-ed, but the name has yet to change.
