Highlanders are an ape/monkey race that lives in the Highlands region in on Alter-Dragon. They are human-sized, with disproportionately long arms and a thick coat of brown fur covering the whole of their bodies. Some Highlanders grow manes of head hair that are colored differently from the rest of their body fur; the most common colors are red, yellow, white and black.
Highlanders actually evolved from a race of mountain-dwelling spider monkeys long ago, but when their forests died away, some evolved and lost the tail, and they became quite clever as they struggled to survive in their harsh climate.
The species tends to organize in groups of clans, and the Highland Clans are fiercely territorial and subdivided.
