According to a popular version of the myth, the almighty Uel created the universe, and then set his sons and daughters to nurture it and maintain balance. Uel remains neutral in all things, and only rarely takes any action in order to preserve the oder and balance of the universe. When the Dark Gods lost the Great War, Uel banished them to The Place Which Is No More. Although some might think that would tip the balance in the Light Gods favor, the Light Gods themselves soon voluntarily departed for The Place Which Is No More as well. Some theologians surmise that the departure of both groups was part of Uel's plan all along, and that the aeons old conflict between the gods was having an adverse effect on the universe they were supposed to be nurturing.

His name is sometimes rendered as "UL", which is exactly how real-world author David Eddings rendered it in his epic fantasy cycle, The Belgariad.
