In case no one figured this one out, the Nox is a parody of that staple of unhinged occult dabblers and spooky teenagers everywhere, the Simon Necronomicon. This is admittedly pretty much a self-indulgent inside joke, considering the circles I run in IRL, which at one point brought me into contact several times with the guy who made the whole thing up. The "does it work or not" gag with the Nox references the fact that people who know the SN is a hoax/borderline practical joke nonetheless swear it's a workable system.
