As Kupopolis grew up, eventually it moved out of AOL's house and found its own place on the Web. Kupopolis writers also began contributing to the story in more ways than simply fueling the interactive story universe: there was artwork, and flash movies, web code and more. Thus the Best Meta Category saw its introduction into the 2001 Figgies contest right around the time Kupopolis was establishing its own web presence.

While this specific category would not appear again in later contests, the categories Best Doesn't Fit Anywhere Else and Best ON/Wiki Entry would resume the tradition of honoring extra-story contributions.
