Nayru

Nayru is the Hylian Goddess of Wisdom, and with her sisters Din and Farore constitute the triumverate of deities known as the Great Goddesses, or the Three, that rule the Hylian Pantheon. The Triforce of Wisdom is the one that holds a portion of her essence.

She is known as the Keeper of Knowledge, and is believed to be the source of the Hylians' great spiritual gifts. She is a teacher and gently guides the Hylian people; it is she that is said to be the inventor of the Hylians’ written language. She often sends visions of inspiration to her children in their dreams. Nayru is also the most overtly mystical of the Three; an old Hylian saying, “to drink in the waters of wisdom”, is attributed to her, and she often speaks in riddles meant to force the listener to more closely contemplate her words. Nayru has aspects as a water goddess, and represents the cleansing, contemplative aspects of water in its quiet stillness. Lake Hylia is sacred to her. As a Goddess closely associated with law, it is Nayru from which flowed the divine right of kingship, in Hylian belief. The royal family has always revered her as the source of their power, and its members often served in her priesthood.

In Hylian mythology, Nayru poured out her wisdom onto the land, creating science and wizardry, and natural law. She is commonly depicted as a beautiful Hylian maiden with a crown of leaves on her long green hair, and a dress of long, billowing emerald silk. Her symbol is a Triforce crest with an open book in the center. She was particularly revered by the Zoras, who claimed her as their patron Goddess, as well as mages and scholars of all races.
