The largest of the races to inhabit ancient Hylia, the Gorons dwelled in the mountains of the Empire, mostly in the Death Mountain Range and Faxanadu. They were yellow with dark eyes and hard, calcified grey scales along their spines. They were also uniformly huge, ranging anywhere from seven to even twelve feet tall, and were often possessed of rotund bellies. They were known for their affinity for eating rocks, their longevity, and their immunity to extreme heat. Gorons also liked to roll around a lot.

Hylian legend states that the Goddess Farore conjured them out of the rock deep inside Death Mountain, but the Great Goddess underestimated how hungry they would be. Nayru counseled their other sister Din to feed them lava rocks. Din did so, and the Gorons so loved this tasty treat that ever after, though they worshipped all three Great Goddesses as all the peoples of Hylia did, they adored Din as their patron.

Gorons were largely miners and craftspeople, and were an easygoing lot who nonetheless greatly admired strength (despite being distinctly un-warlike). They were master masons and builders, and had a hand in constructing nearly all the famed Hylian palaces and temples. They got along famously with their Dwarven neighbors, though disputes over mining territory did break out from time to time. The vast majority of such disputes were settled peacefully.

Gorons have fairly well vanished from the modern Web, and it's a common legend among the varied peoples of the Light Dimension that they simply dug their way deep into the world and returned to the stone from which they came.
